Disabling rear lighting?

Is there any way to make it so the rear lisence plate light and the lights under the word pontiac in the trunk only come on when the headlights are on? I've got a 97. I'm tired of it being blaintently obviouse that my car is running, when I'm warming it up, or just running into the gas station to get a pack of smokes when it's cold outside.

already did that to my car. you just cut the power wire to the license plate light and run a wire down and hook it into the running lights. only took like 5 minutes.

So aparently the lisence plate light and tunk light are wired in line. You don't happen to remember which wire is the hot wire for the tail light do you, I don't like poking away with a test light if I don't have to. Either way thanx, knowing how there wired, I'll be able to figure it out know, I've been wanting to do it for a while.

Black is the ground. Cut the other one.

I know black is ground (usually anyway, sometimes the only 2 wires are blue and orange depending on what your working on), I just can't remember if the tail lights are 2 or 3 wire (an extra wire for the turn signal), I don't need everything bliking when I'm turning left . Either way, I'll figure it out, I'm pretty good at wiring, I just like to know as much as possible before starting something.
