need help swaping 95-99 headlights to 2k-2k2
Wednesday, November 01, 2006 4:51 PM
i accidentally bought the 2k-2k2 fenders for my 99 cav, but i really really like the 2k headlights so i decided to keep them, but i dont know anything about the 2k headlights. on my fenders they have a mounting bracket for my corner lamp but on the 2k fenders there isnt anything there so how does the corner lense mount, and will 2k headlight bolt up to a 99 body. already tried to get the RK sport thing that you have to have for the type J kit but the dont make them anymore

get rid of the bracket on the fender..then you have to trim your bumper to fit them..then you have to use the harness plugs for the 2000 up headlights or you can also use a sunfire harness..phil

What you need is the bracket that attaches to fender and the frame of the car in order to hold the 2000 lights. I am going through the same thing right now. I was woundering if the harness plugs for the 2k-2k2 fit on the 95-99 plug.

You guys know there is a sticky that talks about doing this in Exterior at the top?

First off RKSport's headlight swap was @!#$ and somewhat overpriced as well..
second.. there is a bracket for 00 cavs.. but its removeable.. it has 3 holes where it bolts in, one bolt that bolts the headlight holes this bracket, along with a bolt that bolts down the fender holds this bracket in.. here is the bracket
http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/9357/headlightbracket0037fk.jpg

you can get em from a junkyard or dealership.. i dont know part number but they have been posted but if u go to dealership and explain it they should be able to pull up a diagram and u should be able to point to what it is if u have to go the dealer route

PhillyD He said he has the 00 fenders without the bracket.. no need to remove the bracket.. yes u need to trim ur bumper or buy a 00 bumper for it to work.. and before anyone asks [bYES UR 95-99 HOOD WILL WORK FOR A 00-02 HEADLIGHT SWAP.. and Its easier to just use some 9007 pigtails and splice them in(ive always used 95-99 sunfire pigtails and have had no problems with any of my swaps) for using a sunfire plug u have to match the pinout.. so that means pulling urs out.. taking it to the junkyard and going through all the sunfires till u find a harness that all the metal pins inside the connector match ur stock one.

Now alfred.. teh harness plug for 00 will not fit in a 95-99.. me and jeff tried and not to mention how much of a bitch they are to get out.. there not the same size.. plus in the 00s the airbag wire goes through this harness.. the 95-99 the airbag wire doesnt.

and this kinda pisses me off i spent hours on that damn sticky and no one uses it or even searches to find their answers.. All this has been brought up more then it should have been esp with the sticky..hell even if u posted ur questions in the sticky.. Seriously this is something to not attempt if u have no idea what ur doing.. u can really mess things up..

Cool thanks.

Sorry, I did not find anything in the sticky saying that you cant just switch harness. I guess ill just splice the wires.

all you need to do is take the bracket from your old fenders and put it on the 00-02 fenders and you can keep the 95-99 lights if you dont feel like doing the swapping. all the fenders are the same from 95-05, just the bracket is different from 95-99 to 00-05

BTW the search engine for this site sucks my left nut i try to use it all the time and never find what i am looking for... also

if i just buy a new fornt bumber like one from a kit for a 2k then it would fit the head light and the new fenders that i bought... so pretty much change everything on my front end to 2k parts and that would solve all my problems except for the pig tails or whatever...

also i didnt even know about the pig tails having to be changed so how could i search it....

or you can just swap brackets instead of swappin a whole front end

^^ tru.. drill out the spot welds on ur old fenders.. athen somehow attach them to the new fenders.. jbweld might work but i dunno..

as for doing awhole front end swap minus the wiring.. that would work if u dont need headlights.. because neither of the 9005 or 9006 bulbs will go into the 00 headlights without some custom being made or alot of duct tape.. even then all u has is lows or brights.. and if ur drls arent disabled the brights will be on and depending on where u have them can cause some heat damage.. and even if u manage to get the bulb in there.. u have to make sure its striaght and that it wont fall out.. so just take some time and splice.. its not hard..
