how hard is it to put on a (sparco) billet round gas door??? is there any cutting involved or painting aswell or is it just cover the square hole and screw it on...........I have a 97 cavalier is this mod worth the trouble?
it takes a bit of bodywork...mostly if you're not sure you should let a professional do it.
This is one of those mods that looks great, but if you screw up thats your GAS TANK OPENING...one little spark down that chute and Buh bye....

anyone do this yet im curious to how it was approached im thinking of doing it myself.
just thought about this, wouldn't all u have to do is get some bondo and a thin piece of aluminum and cut a hole in the piece of aluminum to match the hole of the circle gas tank and weld it in place and as well as the hinges or mod it to fit the original hinges. I guess being if the gas tank lid is to big. guess ur @!#$. either way to much work for me.
i was thinking if it was bigger than the stock door couldn't you just take off the stock door sand down the paint primer it and then just drill it in and then go through the trunk and silicone the inside and then put a then layer of silicone around the billet gas door (between the gas door and car body) before you drill it in so no water can get to the holes and rust it???
It has been done by Jack Brown.
Though he told me it wasn't easy to fill the gas tank after it was done. Hard to get the nozzle down in the hole
just right. Obviously, this picture is of the WRONG side, but this is the car...

really? are you serious? its a round gas lid replacing a rectangular gas lid. obviously it has to be cut so the new spacro gas door will sit flush with the body. if not and you just try fastening it to the body, its gonna look like @!#$

no you dont bondo anything. you cut out your 1/4 panel so that the gas lid door sits flush to the body.

again even if it is bigger than the stock gas door, just putting it over the old hole is going to make it look like @!#$.
lol after reading half these responses are you people even willing to pay 130 bucks for one or 200 for a locking one?
no you can buy one on of the billet ones from autozone for like 40 bucks locking is like 60 but with a chrome gas tank like that its not supposed to sit flush with the car. the body of the billet gas tank comes with the door attached to it already. so all you would have to do is take of the old door maybe trim up some of the rectangle gas door and then put it on.

we're not talking about a cheap autozone one. he was talking about the sparco one. take a look at the tibrons and eclipes'. the spacro do is suppose to be the same way where it sits flush.
i've seen some eclipses with them sticking out. and i was just stating the autozone ones for the people that dont want to pay almost 200 for a sparco one. I personally would rather have the sparco one more it has more detail to it.
their suppose to sit flush to get it a smooth look. imo if you want it done the right way, thats the way to do it.
i love this place
It not cheap its not easy and there will be cutting and welding involved since the 1/4 has a curve to it that none of the lids have.
