When i got my CF hood I also got some locking pins with it, so I decided to put them in the other day and got the holes all drilled and everything was going good until I went to get everything lined up so they would lock, and the clasp on the top of the pin busted off. So there I was with two 1/2 inch holes in my hood and no pins for them. So i ordered some from Summit racing, that had a scuff plate big enough to cover the holes I made.
I got those today and got them all put in and everything was good. I wanted to keep the latch just in case some one walks of with the pins I can still drive it, so I went to put the latch back on and out falls a large piece of fiberglass with a nut inside of it, the nut I need to bolt my latch back on! So anyways thank god that didn't happen when I was driving, glad i have the pins now.
What do ya think??
thanks for making me want to go back to my stock hood even more... that could have gotten ugly! but the hood and the car look amazing!
looks good. your suppose to keep your stock latch w/ the pins anyway
Not to jack the post, but what lip is that? I wanna kiss it. My LS lip is scraped up. I let the wife drive the car to the store, and she ran it over a parking space bumper. Son of a B&*(h.
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N

Thats ok some one always asks that when i post any pics of my car. Never heard of anyone wanting to kiss it though. But anyways, the lip is custom I made it by cutting the bottom half of an Eagle Talon TSI bumper off and doing a little reshaping and made up some brackets and put it on to my bumper.
Thanks for all the compliments!
^^the lip cut off from a talon i beleive from a old post he made.. and i love it!
Can u get a pic of underhood where u mounted teh pins? i got mine saturday and i wanna put them on the outside away from the scoop i have on mine.. planned on putting them on the outside rubber stops but i'd like to see where u have urs mounted cuz that looks good!
They are mounted in place of the stops. very simple I just had to drill a hole in the front of the support big enough to get the nut for the bottom side of the pin into. I had to take out the headlights to get to the front of the support to drill a big enough hole in it. If you need a pic I could get one tomorrow, I'm lazy and its cold outside so I don't feel like doing it now.
Silver Z what brand of hood do you have?
I can't remember the name of it right now, but its from A Plus Performance, you can find it on his website.
Your car is so clean considering all the snow.

How much did that hood run you? Just curious.
The hood was $269 I think. Great hood for the price, no regrets with it at all. I would buy it again for sure!

I only drive it to work and back and I only work like 2 blocks from my house. We take the wifes Bug everyelse, unless its nice out and the roads are clear then I drive.
if you go on the highway get a hood bra, i waited a day to long sadly and just got a chip in my new invader hood

if u could get some pix it would be great. thanks!
no need to drill holes if you remove the 2 outter bump stops then you can put the pins in there and put the nut on through the bottom. really easy to do
I did put the pins in the outer bump stop holes but I couldnt find a way to get the nut for the bottom of the pin on to the pin in the hole. That is why I had to drill a hole in the front of the support to get the nut onto the bottom of the support.
Is there a hole in the support somewhere that I didn't find?
^^ not that i know of. the nut on the set of pins i got wont fit in that hole.. i planned on just getting a washer and grinding the hole open just a tad enough to get the nut in.. then there is that lil notch for teh bump stop to screw in and see if i can angle the washer enough to slide in.. or cut on that notch a lil so i can get a washer in there..
Ok, I didn't think I missed any holes. If you can hang on little while I will get out and take some pics in for ya.
Bump stop...reffering to the two adjustable rubber thingers right? Could you get a picture of what you did when you get a chance? I have a cf EVO hood sitting in the garage to get installed, just waiting for it to warm up.
Also, did you use the latch from your stock hood? If so, how did you remover/reattach it?
Here are some pics i took with the headlights out, i was gonna get some with the headlight in but the batterys in my camera decided to die and i couldn't find any more. But you can see where the pin is and the hole I drilled to get the nut on to the bottom of the pin, there probablly is a better way to get it on there but I don't know what it is, and this worked pretty good.
And yes the "bump stops" are the two rubber things on the outside corners of the hood in the top of the radiator support. there should also be two of them in front of the radiator somewhere. Just twist them out and put the pin in that hole, that way you know they are in the same spots.

^^ Why not just get the pins with the wires, so they can't ever leave the car? That's what my Mustang had, and I think the wires going back into the hood looked pretty badass.
This seems to be the only good pic of what I'm talking about:
^^ i honestly think those do belong on muscle cars.. but for sum reason they usally dont look good having wires going down the hood on our Js.. the ones i got have like a lock on them, im sure like speedracerZ's its the style of the vending machine locks.. the thing i like about them is there is only a 2" polished scuff plate.. not 4" like most..
Thanks for the pics silver Z, im gonna try and plan out mounting mine today.. and prolly try and mount them next week..prolly tuesday.
No problem, I also think that the wires only look good on muscle cars.
The first set of pins I tried was the locking ones with the same style key and when I was lining everything up half the clasp on top of the pin busted off, hope that doesn't happen with yours.
Good Luck.
