how big is the boat? if it's a dinghy, probably...anything larger than that would REALLY be pushing it.

Check your owners manual... I know on my '99, it said that you weren't supposed to tow with a manual tranny.

I had an auto, so I towed my 4wheeler around with it lol.

I've always though it was better to tow with a manual

My '05 owner's manual says manual trans. = no tow. Guess my bike will have to find another way to get around if I'm not riding it.

I guess it might be different with a cavy since it's a little car. I wouldn't see a problem with a Class I hitch, you can add a trans cooler to help a little too

They just put that in there because idiots will fry the clutch. My coworker has a 99 fire with a 2.2 5 speed and he tows a small trailer with a race go-cart on it with no problems.

Nope, Most factory clutches are not made with towing in mind. If you do it, use a class I hitch and don't tow anything over 1000lbs, if that much.

im an asst manager at u-haul and the biggest thing a cavalier can pull is a 5x8 trailer, the biggest hitch for a cavalier is a class one, max towing is 2000lb, but i wouldnt suggest pulling a 2000lb boat, if it was a light aluminum boat maybe, today on my way to work i saw a early 90's geo metro pulling a hugh bass boat, if the geo had hit a big bump well goodbye boat either that or he would of bottomed out real bad

wanna see a dead body, @$^# around and you'll be it

Good luck towing the boat when your taking it out of the water. When the front tires get wet and your on a steep drop, don't plan on going very far.

FWD would have a better grip than a RWD truck or suv so you are wrong. It would be fine.

most ramps you have to put part of the truck in the water.. i know in va by quantico if you try to put a boat in the potomic river your car would be in the water as the ramp drops off..

Randy Wyn used to tow around his waverunner(s) with his 95 2.3 5 speed... never had any issues with it....

I think Randy either pulled 1 or 2 waverunners. Not 100% sure.

I've pulled a 4x8 util trailer w/ 8-900 lbs of lumber... no prob... car's definately underpowered for that much weight (I think gross was 1100-1300ish).

Only thing I have my hitch still on for is when I gotta throw on the hitch-mounted bicycle rack.

BTW, I don't think 97's been covered yet as far as the owner's manual goes, but 97 = no tow.

Umm..... i have a manual 02, with the ECO, and i bought the Hidden Hitch hitch, most of them say 200 tounge, 2000 weight, the Hidden Hitch one said, 250 tounge amd 2,500 load.........

Truthfully, the thiongs i have towed with my little car, most of them weren't the best thing to do, but you can see what it coould tow, so you can get apretty good idea.....
now as i post these, most likely i will get flamed by the people that say NO TOW.... but ohh well........

1) a 20' bass boat, with a 150 Mercury outboard, and the axels moved to the back, to accomodate the standard pulling vvehicle, a silverado.
Now with this, i only went about 6 miles, to the gasstation, and back, only because it was convienient, and wanted to see what my car could really do. ( the results, if youre carefull, it'll pull it no problem, but i DO NOT recomend it with stock brakes, much less i DO NOT recomend doing that at ALL........ letme just say, my Brembo's and ceramics were crying....

2) double jetski tariler, is no problem at all, even pulling it out of the hole, even with a person on each ski....
now with this, it's no problem, if you have good tires, and you use your e-brake.......
you will aslo know feel the trailer that it's behind you on the road......

3) a 5'x12' trailer with 3,500 lbs. axel, and 2,300 lbs of steel......
let me tell ya, it was soooooo much fun....... just imagine stoping two of your cars, with only one set brakes........
Brembo's were also crying.........

4) single jet ski trailers, to the water, back to the house, in the ramp, and out of the ramps ALL THE TIME..........

5) an X- jetski Trailer rebuilt and lowered to match my car, used for race tracks, carry tires tools, etc. etc.

6) same 5'x12' trailer, using it for moving my @!#$ into the new house, that includes washers dryers, refrig, cabinets, desks... you name it, i've towed it.....

if you wanna see pics, just let me know.......... installation, wiring, what have you....
Ohh yeah, i also ended up haviong to drop my muffler to get it on....... no biggie though....

OKI, now the flaming and the yelling, and the "what the @!#$ were you thinking??? " go on............ i am fully ready to accept it, but i tell ya what, i have a tottaly new respect for my Cavi, and my Ecotec

Likewise... I have a Draw-Tite on my Sunfire w/ a 6 pin plug wired in (right now only 4 of the pins are hooked up... I had to disconnect 2 of 'em -- reverse and highmount brake -- when I got my util trailer)

Not quite... the tongue weight as well as being on a slope is going to lift the front end slightly, causing the weight to be distributed more towards the rear, causing a traction loss. It may not be that significant of a loss, but still a loss.

I have a 2002 pontiac sunfire with the 2.2 eco and 4 speed auto. I was thinking about making a giant bike rack and putting my dirt bike up there. It might be too much tongue weight though. The bike weighs about 250 and the rack would probably weigh about 20lbs. The pressure would be strait down and not out at all. Do you guys think that would work? It would be a sweet set-up if it would. thanks for the help!
