Just wondering if anyone has done this on a 3rd gen Cavy? I've seen pics online of a few people but I was wondering if anyone has plans or a how-to they might be able to share on how to do a suicide hood....

if i remember correctly, you need the shocks from an old Buick i beleive.
do a search for suicide hood, there should be some good info.

The one in this picture is not done with buick lesabre hinges. That one is done with the stock hinges. Buick lesabre suicide hoods come down past part of the front bumper

correct, i forgot about that. if you wanna know how to do something like that, contact mattdiggity (sp?) i think thats his name. he did something similar to his hood except his hinges were on the drivers side fender and opened from the passenger side fender. i know its different from that pic but its the same concept

i did it to my 97 fire,and on the "hard to work on the engine thing" yeah it is,gonna put it back to the right way coz its hard to get to anything under the hood.
I pass a Corvette dealer twice a week and seeing as today we we're in the 50's. All the Vette's were washed and had the suicide hoods opened. Then I came upon this post, coincidence.....I think not! Must be a sign.

Im going to look into how the vette hoods are secured and maybe figure something better out than gay hood pins.
Materials: i set of hood pins since your hood latch will no longer be used.
First thing you will need to do is remove your hood from the car completely. There are
two hinges: one on each end of the upper part of the car which will need to be unbolted
from the hood. You will need some help to hold up the hood. Then you can sit your
hood aside for now.
Now remove those hinges that were attached to the hood from the car. There will be
another two bolts per hinge to the right that will need to be removed also. Now what you
will have to do is remove the stock latch from the front of the car. It is bolted between
the headlights and held on by 4 bolts.
Now that you have removed everything, you are ready for the tricky part.
MEASUREMENTS: You will need exact measurements on where to drill. You will
have to move those stock hinges that were near the window up to where the latch was.
The picture below shows you where these should be exactly and how they should look.
Then you will bolt them into the metal and to the hood. Personally I recommend drilling
three holes on each hinge to the hood as shown in the picture. Make sure everything lines up perfectly before this is done or you will regret it. You don’t want to drill holes in the wrong spots. I recommend at least two people doing the drilling and measuring to make sure things are done right.
Now you will need to put on the hood pins. Those must be drilled in near the wiper
blade as shown in the next picture. As for the rest of the installation of the hood pins it all depends on the style of hood pins you bought. Instructions should be included with them and the process is not too difficult.
Now the final step is to find a place to drill a hole where the arm can hold the hood up

naw. its no big deal to me at all. these were given to me a year ago from another JBO member. i never had to pay for them and want to make sure nobody else does either. i have never participated in this. its not something i would like to do, but it looks pretty simple. the reason i cant post it is because it is made with "adobe reader". the only way i can share it is sending via email. the pictures are unable to be copied, otherwise i would have made a whole new one using the same pictures. so because i cannot copy them, all you have to do is shoot me an email. it takes me only 2 seconds to reply attaching the file and sending it out to you. good luck to all who i send it to.
