Pillar cover

The black shiny exterior pillar covers next to my doors are all cracked and faded looking. I'm trying to find a way to replace or repair these. I know this happens on almost all cavis with plastic covers so I'm thinking there must be a common fix for it.

Jason at A+ Performance sells carbon fiber covers that stick onto the plastic pieces and covers them up. i have a set on my car, and i think they look good.

You can find some CF inserts to cover these or you can paint them using the steps below. I know that this isn't exactly what your talking about but, you get the idea. Courtesy of Anthony Jones (Sweet Car!!)

Anthony Jones wrote:i was getting sick of having crappy weathered sills on such a nice car so heres a little trick i figured out. hopefully this can help some people and make a few more cavs window sills mint!
step 1: you need dupli color bumper coating. its a flat black coating usually used on trim pieces

heres a look at my crappy 3 year old window sills...

man!!!! those are pretty ugly huh? well heres how you fix that!
step 2: tape off your window sill. also tape off the area around the sill for protection of overspray.

step 3: spray the bumper coating on in thin even coats. i used about five.

step4: now remove the tape and view the results! now the sills look as good as new!

and heres a full shot of the car with all new sills! lookin new again!

by the way, i tested this paint on some door sills two months ago and it has lasted fine. then again my car isnt really driven at all so im not sure how this paint will hold up on a daily driven car. best bet it to just try it. it definately makes a big improvement and for 6 bucks you cant beat it.

Hope this helps, Good Luck!

Thanks all for the ideas. Painting the seals is a good idea. I was considering getting some glossy paint and going over the pillars, maybe that would help it. Carbon fiber covers would work but I'd have to get the originals off so they don't stick out.

Am I the only one who caught the only problem with what Jones did to his car in relation the question at hand?? The guy asked how to take care of his fading B PILLARS, not seal around his window. Its a great idea and I'm gonna do it to the seal myself, but I'd find out for sure before putting dupli color on the pillar itself.
