I've seen flip flop trunk kits on ebay for almost every kinda car out there. just curious if anyone has done it to their j-body. I have an 04 cavalier with the stock spoiler.
is this flip flop trunk thing pretty cool, or is it a gimmick? does the trunk lid stay horizontal, or does it kinda swing up and down freely?
Thanks for any info!

do a search... also in the photo forum for pics
well thanks for the link to the search, I read through every post in every thread that came up. the instructions seem pretty straight forward, but it seems that it's more of a headache than anything.
this mod is called the "flip flop" trunk, do the the trunk actually "flip flop" or swing back and forth? (will it hit the trunk arms?) or does it stay parallel with the ground always?
thanks for any info

It will hit the trunk arms if you dont put somethin in to stop it...also, some people have trouble with the front corners sticking up a bit and causing leaks...

I read about the corners sticking up, but I'm sure if I actually did this mod, I would be able to fix that. the way you fix it is with spacers and longer bolts on the end of the arms that connect to the car.
so the trunk lid does swing back and forth, and doesn't stay fixed/parallel with the ground? that's disapointing..

Listen, im pretty sure that all the "flip flop trunk" is just the trunk popping vertically, yes it stays popped up. No swinging around or anything like that. I have heard about leaks but im sure they are easy to find.

if you do it correctly, and follow accurate instructions, you shouldn't have problems with leaking or alignment.
easier said than done...spacers didn't help my corner..I plan to change it back to stock..It's nice for a bit then it just becomes a pain in the ass
i did it, it was a pain in the ass....but like he said if u do it CORRECTLY it looks good and not everyone has it. I never had any leaks or fitment probs what so ever.
here's a few pics of it done on my sedan
ok i'm going to try this mod.. if i don't like it or if it doesn't work out, I can always go back to original..
as far as the hinges go, i'm kind of confused. all the instructions I've read say 6-8 inch hinges.. the hardware store measures them per side, so I got a 6" hinge (which is 1-foot long laying flat on the ground..)
these are the hinges I got, I put them next to a measuring tape to show size.
This picture shows the hinge opened up all the way. Notice the pin is on the outside, and not the inside. I'm going by the directions on
this page. in the picture on this page, it shows the hinge, but the pin is on the inside. get what i'm trying to say? did I get the right hinge?
this picture shows the hinge laying flat on the ground, and the full measurement. I think it's too big!
this shows the hinge on it's side closed.

and this is just a rough sketch in mspaint of how I think it would function...
