Painting reflectors, do they still shine through?

I'd like to paint my amber corner reflectors to a flat black to match the headlight housing (this way I dont get the holes), but I still need the little light thats under the reflector to work. It doesnt have to be super bright, but as long as people can tell its still working is what I need.

I was thinking I might be able to sand the reflector down a whole bunch from the inside and that way if it was thinner it would still show through the flat black paint.

Any ideas guys?

This is what I want it to look like:

Id go with the taillight tint called "Nite Shades" from VHT, cheap stuf, very good, I used it on all my exterior lights, including the reflectors, clean it up real good with some degreaser made for dissolving oils(from your hands, etc.) only spray 2 coats, and then check it for darkness, Ive heard people using like 10 coats!! I only used 2 or 3 on mine, theyre plenty dark, not black, but dark and the light still shines on thru.
