alright so im thinking on smoking my taillights on my 04 cavalier? my car is a 2 door white cavalier. Do you guys think this is a good idea???? my first concern is that the smoke taillights wont go along with my white car. My car has that big ass reflector that goes from left 2 right. (03+ models) and im thinking if this would look good all around. i didnt want to smoke them out 2 dark mayb like 2 coats the most and i was also going to block out the reverse lights so i could see where im going while in reverse. im thinking of using VHT Nite Shades. i made some research and its very easy to do.
So would smoked taillights look good on my car???? Just want to hear what people think.
here are the instructions on how to smoke the taillights
How To Smoke Your Taillights
clean your tailights with rubing alcohol... let them dry!
buy tint nightshade ($11)... spray it about three times....
let dry between coats...
then clear coat aboput twice.. let dry between coats.. ..
let dry over nigt dont touch them..
walla.. done!

how is it that you go about and apply the tint? is it hard? and how much would it cost? can you remove the ting if you dont like it???

I love that car.
Just try it out man , i think it would look good.
I did mine just as a test. I recently wanted to trade them for stock lights, cause I was goin for a stock look, but now Ive reconsidered! I love having the enter back end of the car black! Now if only I had some left to do the spoiler light!
Yeah...I'm going to be doing that to my Sunfire (VHT is sitting in the garage), but I now have 4 lights to do rather than the 3 I had originally. I got pulled over recentlly and the cop told me I needed any light that was there to be working.
The one I have on the spoiler went out, but the cop saw the one I have inside the car too, so I had to make them all light up. Will I have enough for all four of the lights if I do three coats of the VHT Nightshades?
Hey if you need some vht niteshades let me know. I'll get it a couple bucks less than $11.
And if you saw chad's cavi, he had his tinted and clear coated. Not my taste, but it might look good on a white car.
Oh, I once had tinted tails. Til I crashed. One tail light survived the other didn't. The bodyshop removed the tint.
My Car
so what would be better. adding tint like on a window or using nightshade? also if i dont like how the turned out i know i can remove the tint but with the spray i need to buy a new set of taillights. so whats better???
this is a pic of my car i dont have 1 with my trunk closed. i was thinking of smoking everything but for the reverse light (marked with a black circle) and the break and turning lights (marked with a yellow circle).
would this look good????or should i just smoke the break and turning lights 2???

I personally think the 03-05 smoked Cavi lights look horrible. It just doesn't look good to me.
My 03 yellow cav has them tinted all the way acrossed. To me it looks better than them being red. Although I really want to get an 95-02 trunk and put my toyota tails in.

i have never seen them on a white cav. i have searched for pics but never found any 03+ cavs with the stock taillights smoked. there is nothing you can do to them really unless like FstCavz24 u can change the trunk and the tails, but i wanted to work with what i have. i have seen the yellow cav on a jbody meet we had a while back with smoked taillights and they looked good and i have also found some white cavaliers with white painted taillights.

The white looks pretty good and you'd be less likely to get harassed by cops.
so if i were to make them white what type of paint should i use??? and what would b the process of doing this???

i gotta admit, i love the look of those of those cars
I tried doing what the yellow cav did to my car, but I think i got a bad can of VHT or somtehing, because it turned out HORRIBLEEEEEE ... it didn't even turn black, it was like a primer grey :p
good luck with your project, whatever you decide to do!

The car was built in mid 03 for SEMA by Motegi and Teske Design. It sat unused until Feb 05 when I bought it. I've only made a few changes to it since.
Oh and the date on the pic is wrong of the yellow and red car. That was taken a couple of months ago.
oh i got ya. that is a very nice car ya got there man.
Thanks! I love it, and I owe Teske and Jim@ gravanatuning for getting me a steal on it.
