Easy Engine Dress up
Tuesday, May 31, 2005 7:33 PM
Does anyone have some suggestions on some easy engine dress up? I would like just a few cheap things to make it look a little better than stock and add some flare. The only thing I can think of is those plastic tubes that wrap around wires that I can't remember the name of that you can get in different colors. Does anyone know about where to get these or anything else that adds a little bit of show quality to it?

I saw some at Auto Zone. Was just there today lookin...its like a silverish lookin stuff then it had diff colored 'bolts' but they only clipped on they didnt go all the way around. They looked pretty cool...then of course they had the rubber covers that go over exhisting tubes....hope that helps

wire looms...engine paint...billet accessories (oil cap, dipstick, etc...) they can all make an engine look better...

Wire loom was a huge dissapointment for me. I used blue and it looked good for like a day. The engine heat faded it quick, looks like crap now. One of these days I will be putting black back on.

Jason at A+ sells engine cap decals in all colors and I sell CF versions.

Check us out.

Once you get a few bucks saved up, the CF engine stuff from RK Sport can't be beat!

Where can you buy engine paint from? I'd be interested in painting my Ecotec. Do you have to take the engine out to do it?

get 500 degree paint from pep boys, auto zone, no you dont have to take the whole engine out just do a good job of masking off what you dont want to paint, ligtly sand whatever your going to paint so it makes a better bond

Buy some degreaser and scrub everything down. Then buy some mothers polish and a pad, and polish anything you may feel you want polished (valve cover, alternator, etc.) and maybe for an extra touch a couple c.f. accents or some exterior color matched peices) and you should be satisfied. Just please stay away from all that wire loom crap or colors that do not match the car in any form. Its just plain tacky.

Here is the most recent picture of my engine. I had blue wire loom and silicone hoses, a billet battery cover and the fuse box cover, all five caps, the IDI cover and the throttle wire cover were all painted with blue engine paint. Just this past weekend I removed all the wire loom and silicone hoses because I am heading in a different direction with the engine (see below).

Here is an older picture of the engine before I painted the caps, etc.

I will be redoing the engine within the next month or so. I will be adding a silver hose kit from Hose Techniques and the braided stainless steel main hose covers (the ones that can be found at Auto Zone, etc. for about $40). I will also be ordering a cool air intake from RK Sport. The only thing I won't be getting rid of is the battery cover. If you have any more questions or if you need some links on where to find stuff, please feel free to email me any time .
