what is the name of the piece that the headlights bolt into?
Reason is, the drivers side bolts stripped out and the light was flopping around. I was able to get one side tight by re-tapping the hole but, the other one, no can do. I had to zip ite it for it to stay in place.
If anyone know the part I am talking about, how hard is it to replace or should I take it to a body shop?
If that is the part, which I think it is, how hard is it to replace?

Body GIRL here... but yeah that's the part... and it's welded on... and a biotch to replace...
I say bore out the hole thats stripped out, then just weld in a nut, or two-part epoxy it in place, as long as it accepts the bolt, you're good to go. No need to do something as complicated as changing the whole thing.

or you could get those metal c-clips that are used to prevent bolts from backing out they are like metal tabs that have a split middle part, i cant remember what they are called though. But that is what i had to do.
or you can hit the hole with a ball pien hammer on each side together. It with flatten the metal out a little and shrink the hole. Then retap it. I did that with the first one that stripped. When the second hole stripped, I stuck a bolt through it around the same size with a nut on the other side and it works fine too. Don't raplce the core support....

I took the car to the body shop today and spoke to the owner, he said $75.00 to replace the support. He did mention about getting one from a junk yard though. I thought it would be hella lot more then that. I told him since it fine for now, I will wait till it gets warmer and then have him do it.

^^ that piece needs the whole front end removed to replace.. hes not going to fix it for 75 dollars. Just use a nut and bolt thats a good idea.. altho mine are curently zip tied.. This is a very common problem with jbodies.

Use a bigger bolt. That's what I did. Found a 13mm that had a thicker thread and jammed it in there. good as new.
yeah that guy is gonna take you for a ride..... he is gonna do one of the things we mentioned and rip you off for the 75 bones...
hate to break it to you but 75 bucks is not enough to replace a core support..... replacing a core support for a stripped headlight bolt is rediculous.... if you cant see why, then no offence but you really shouldnt have ever picked up a wrench in the first place...
if ya want i'll fix it for 60 bucks.....

Right now they are zipped tied, I did not know this was a common problem with j's.
I am going to take it to another shop and get an est. on cost. I do not like my cars rigged up, I like having them they way they should be. If the price is too much, then zipped tied it will be.

I know this guy, he has worked on my car before. I doubt very highly he will rip me off.
I am in no rush to get this fixed. I would do this myself, except I have not welded since I was in high school, plus I am no mechanic by any strech. I mess around with my cars. I know when I am capable of doing something and when I am not.
welding or epoxying a nut on the bottom so the bolt will have something to catch onto will really be no diff then what it came factory, the bolt just may have to be a lil longer, but no one will notice a diff, not even you, when its done.

I have the same problem with the inner one on the driver side...
just threw a nut underneath and I'm good to go...
I think I found a product to solve all our problems. It is called LAB Metal, its a puddy that you can spread in the hole, scratch or what ever you need to fill. Works on metal, glass, wood, plastic. Needless to say it hardens. It is drillable, tappable. grindable, sandable, paintable and powdercoatable.
As soon as I get my car out of the transmission shop, I wll buy the product and try it out. I will post when I test it out and see how it holds up.
happened to me, i went to the dealer and they said dont bother, but it happens all the time. i just found a nut that fit it, and tightened it from the bottom. works just as good.

It's the same thing as "JB Weld" and it works great! I had to do that... drill and tap it also... That should solve your problems!
