ok i have a 93 cavalier that im swapping a 96engine into (that will be built) and im changing it to obd2 i have a harness for it but the 96 ecm is a crappy one to tune with so my ? is this what is the best one to tune with (most compatable with the tuning software currently aval) sence im changing the engine and harness alreddy i might as well go with the best ecm
thanx all sk8
oh and heres a few pics of the car
you will need 1997 or newer, not 100% sure but I think some 96 work...
if you are rewiring everything anyways, consider the 2000-2002 if you want boost, or if you want complete control consider a new EMS (megasquirt being the cheapest) but there are many available.
HP Tuners | Garrett T3/T04B | 2.5" Charge Pipes | 2.5" Downpipe | 650 Injectors | HO Manifold | Addco front/rear | Motor Mounts | HKS SSQV | Spec stage 3 | AEM UEGO Wideband | Team Green LSD | FMIC | 2.3 cams | 2.3 oil pump swap | 280WHP | Now ECOTECED
I just want to ask why you're converting to OBDII? The 96 engine will run fine on an older ecm. The tools to tune the older ecm allow you to do more with less money. And the older ecm's are less complex to install. Plus there are at least 3 different ecm's which I can think of which can be used with boost.

this is kind of a feeler i may have a 00 cavi 2.2 engine and harness with ecm aval to me but any info you have as to the stock ecm (93 cavi 2.2 man ) and wethor that will work would b usfull and greatly app also it just seemed like it would b less hassle to tune with a laptop rather than have to take out the prom and flash it every time i wana change something but like i said before any info would b great...... as i am still in the design stage of this project
once agen thanx to all
The stock 93 ecm isn't the one to use. You'll want one from a quad 4 car or a turbo Sunbird if you are going for boost. You'll need to use an ignition module from a different engine also. The older Saturn Ecotec engine module is a good choice. Or you could transfer the module from the 2.2 and figure something out for plug wires.
As far as tuning you can make the older OBDI system easier to tune than the HPT setup for the 97+ pcm. It takes a couple of boxes but you can get setup to tune in real time with a laptop. With HPT you have to shut the car down and reprogram the complete pcm each time you want to make a change. With a laptop and an emulator for OBD1 you leave the engine running and change exactly what you want right now. No shut downs, no waiting. It's nice.

Most likely. That looks like OBDI 3800V6 ecm. Check out Tunercat to be sure.

93, 2.2, 5 speed is a no-go. That car uses a flash chip which is reprogrammed electronically. I never took the time to work out how to reprogram it since it was easier to switch to another ecm. My old one is on a shelf in the barn right now. You could use the 16197427 ecm which is used in the 94-95 S10 (old body style) with 2.2, or you can pick another ecm and program it yourself. The S10 pcm is a good choice but you'd probably also need to buy a memcal for the 2.2 engine which adds to the price.

well i was just curoius cause it looks like tuner cat says that my ecm is supported but i didnt think it was the link to the site is here
http://www.tunercat.com/tnr_desc/do_tc.html
it deff file $88 if its not for my ecm then what car/engine is it for also how can i decode the service num so i can see what ecm i have
They show TC for 89-90 Cav w/ 2.0 TBI, 90-94 Cav with V6, 94-95 2.2 cars. Nothing for 93.
Maybe you should look for a 16191947 ecm. That's good for the 94 Pontiac LN2.
