Running old school?

Has anyone or is it even possible to run a ld9(2.4) with the use of a computer for tuning? I'm talking no injectors and running a ITB or carb setup? Only issue I can see would be getting a signal for the ignition source but that can probably be done with the factory cam/crank sensors and some fancy wiring.

Been having an idea of running a ld9 in another car and would like to make it work with no computer to keep it clean.

They sell an igniton kit that plugs into the factory sensors. Only fuel is the ITB setup.

Definately some good stuff...

Anyone actually have any experience with this? Is it any good?

You keep saying this "ITB"... and No Computer.......

ITB's need injectors, Injectors need a computer. Do you mean something like Webber Side draft carburetors? If so, they yes, and you can still use your ECM to fire the plugs, or you can get a Distributor for it.

Just run a custom intake to a 4 barrel carb or get a custom IC setup from Q4Rods and run a modified 2.3L ICM. The 2.3L ICM can generate the ignition by itself. Q4rods sell an independent ignition system that is based on what I'm talking about.

I always wanted to run a 4 barrel carb and distributor but like any idea out of the jbo band wagon, the idea got shot down saying it's stupid and I got a bunch of WHY's,

It would have made my life 200% easier with the HG2 and the 12:1 pistons.

this could be modified for some use on a quad motor.

-Trailblazer SS - not so custom 6.0L - custom intake - custom tune
- (1) 2.4L on an engine stand (1) blown trans (2) good quad trans (1) eco trans = party

I would think this would be usable unmodified on a 2.4. IIRC the power steering system bolts right up between the TC and ECO.

Sven you totally quarterloafed your computer..

Personally I love this idea.. very unique..

i'd like to see a Supercharged TC or Eco running an old school rig. The only problem I see in a boosted setup is getting enough fuel into the engine. A quick look through Weber's DCOE lineup lacks CFM numbers. With create placement, i bet its very doable.

I've been involved in turbo + carb apps. It takes a lot of mechanical tomfoolery to compensate for the large changes in pressure and temperature found in many turbo systems. I would put a properly tuned efi and electronic spark system against a well tuned carb + distributor any day. I would lay my money on the computer controlled system every time.

No doubt. The EFI learning curve is huge, and if you're used to making things happen the "old way" then you're going to get frustrated trying to make a laptop do the same job as your trusty screwdriver.
