I've just been contemplating on going with a custom tune over my current GM SC reflash. But is it worth the cost for me?
I currently have...
2002 sunfire gt 2.2 ecotec
GM SC'd
GM reflash
Pacesetter 4-1 header with 2.25 inch exhaust, dual magnaflow setup with hi-flo cat
AEM CAI
And I hope to have an intercooler setup done sometime this summer . With a possible pulley change (havent researched enough yet if going smaller will work with keeping daily driving in mind)
Think the cost of finding someone to HPT tune my car will be worth the gains? Will I NEED to buy a wideband A/F gauge?
Also is it feasable for me to do this to my Daily driver? I'm modding with reliability in mind. I need to know that a custom tune won't give me problems down the road.
Will I have to get it re-tuned if I remove or add certain small mods? Ex: If I take my AEM CAI off for the winter and replace it with stock can i keep the same tune?
No clue where I'll get it done. Can I just buy a used computer from a wrecked 02 sunfire and keep my reflashed one as a spare? And how long does it take on average to tune a car?
Thanks for your patience in reading.

Yes, IMO, HPT is worth it. Yes you need a wideband.
My car is my only car and i used HPT on it instead of the gm tune.
Intake shouldnt really make a difference.. if you changed injectors or went down in pulley size then you would retune..
I have a junkyard computer with the gm tune on it i used for a while, so a spare computer could work.
Can't give you a timeframe. on a dyno by professionals it would most likely take at least a couple hours. if you did it yourself, expect to spend whatever time it takes to tune it.. ive been doing small tweaks for a while now..

you don't have a choice, HPT cannot alter or view the GM reflash for the ecotec.. so if you want to HPT, you need to buy another ecu.
So let's say I get someone who can tune well. And tell him I want a medium tune (not too crazy, not too whimpy, but better then then GM reflash, keeping near 100% reliability) What kind of hp/tq gains can I expect? And if I added an intercooler to my setup in the future, would this be worth the $1000 cost of setting the intercooler up? Basically for me to get a new computer, tune, and intercooler, I'd be guestimating a price tag of around $2000 CAN.

ummm what? 1000? i did my heat exchanger set up for way less. goto svtperformance.com and hop on the forums and see if anyone is selling their cobra H/E or cobaltss.net would work too. if you want new, look into zzperformance.com for a heat exchanger. then just goto the hardware store and get all the plumbing.
i made a heat exchanger thread a while ago that was never sticky'd

if you buy HPT look for someone on here with a similar setup to yours and see if they can help get you started with a tune.
