Hey whats up guys,
i have hpt,but i havent really used it yet.I plugged it into my 98 z24(stock).At idle, the advance* is all over the place. It goes from 2.5-36.0.Is that normal?I thought it should pretty much stay stable. The car runs like crap and its throwing random misfire codes even after replacing the coils, plugs, tower, boots and the icm.Right after i changed the icm yesterday, its throwing a crank sensor code now.Would the crank sensor throw the timing off wack at idle? Thanks guys.

Yeah its been running like crap for a while now.Its very sluggish and keeps throwing misfire codes.I dont drive the car very often, but id like to fix the issues with it.Im gonna replace the crank sensor and see if that takes care of anything.

your going to want to rule out the obvious. do a compression test. while your doing that check your plugs tell me what you see. what have you tinkered with on your car. can you verify that your 02 is good.
also most important exact specs on when your car does this. temps, weather out, how you drove the car before it happened. the more specific the better.

Generally the timing should be pretty stable with it being in the teen numbers.
It's only going to go up to the higher numbers if you give it throttle or a load.
So your numbers your seeing are telling you that you've got some issues.
Looking at my latest scan, I noticed in the open loop that the timing was in the high singles to low teens.
But once the car got into closed loop, is stayed in the 15-20 degrees of advance with it fluctuating in those numbers.
When I revved the engine, the timing went up to 39 degrees of advance.
Hope that helps.
