Ecotec into a pre 00 car

has any one tried putting an ecotec into a pre-00 car WITHOUT re-wiring the whole car? using HPT to control everything?

No because pre00 does not have a BCM and you need that.

why does it need it? the BCM controls the body.. what does that have to do with the ECM/engine..

you can change the engine size with HPT.. use the stock ECM in a pre 00 car, the ecotec's and quads use all the same sensors do they not? minus a cam pos. sensor.

Change the engine size??? SOmeone else was looking at hardwiring the Ecotec to 2.4 ECU and wiring harness. You are asking for more work than needed. There si some things that are needed. I do not understand why you would want to hardwire when you can plug and play. If it was a standalone that is one thing, but for a factory tuning it is not worth it.

your obviously not understanding..

IF you want to swap an ecotec into a pre-00 car, you need to re-wire the entire car because of the BCM/ECM and cluster all need the correct VIN for the passlock to work.

Now the wiring harness's are all pretty much the same through the years and all the cars use the same sensors or close to it., So why can you not plug an ecotec into a pre-00 z24 (very slight wiring not the whole car) and TUNE for the ecotec.the ecm doesn't care which engine is in the car as long as it gets its sensor signals

. no longer need a donor car with all the wiring for BCM/ECM or cluster for the ecotec to work

Actually I understand very much. I have done this swap (the correct way many times). I know what is involved. I understand what you are getting at. Someone else was looking at doing the same thng. There is some things that are different between say a 2.4 and a Ecotec. If I remember correctly the ignition system is one. I believe timing between the 2.4 and Ecotec are different as in the trigger wheels or somethng like that. There is a post in the performance section from some time bacjk that talked about this. It would require more re-wiring than you think. So again doing it the correct way would be correct. Also the BCM and ECU, and ignition switch and cluster do not have to have the same VIN to work together, but they have to read each other.

i was the one thinking about doing it, may be others too. its been put off because im away at school and dont have anything near me. when i get home for next break i plan on starting the hybrid harness of what needs to be fixed, it shouldnt be too much just as you said, many of the sensors are the same..... hondas have been doing this for years.

a pcm is dumb, u have to tell it what to do, just like a pc computer. you manipulate it to do the things you want it to do.

also i thought i read somewhere that the crank wheels were the same? thats the hard thing, sometimes its hard to come by reliable info these days..

i have an eco swap in my 96 cavy and it runs, has the mph, tach and temp readings on the dash no fuel guage though i basically go by the miles.lol i didnt do the swap the guy that had it before did so i cant really answer any questions besides it can be done and it will run.lol bad side no fuel guage, every light you can think of on the dash is on and i have had the passlock come on before all you do is relearn it and will fire right up.the obd port does not work either havent had th time to get into the wiring to find out why yet but need to so i can tune the car in the future when i get more mods, but for now it runs just fine id say it has basic bolt ons header,intake,2.25 straight pipping, lightened crank pulley rk sport, and resently installed stage 1 comp cams.runs fine to me and if anything were to happen gives me a reason to build a new motor the way i want to cant do it now cuz its a daily driver. but im happy with it!!!

do you have to have a gauge cluster hooked up for the eco to run?

i also have a 96 eco swapped car but everything was re-wired and is using an eco computer. are you saying your car is running off a 2.4 comp and all that wiring made to work with the eco motor? or is ur car just like every other pre 00 swap? no one has an issue getting an eco in a pre 00 car and making it run, we are lookin at using the original wiring and pcm for the pre 00 car and just making the motor run off that.

Not being rude in saying this (not meant to sound that way at least), but I do not think he really knows.

as john stated i dont know what comp its has in it and im not going to try and say cuz i didnt do the swap. i never bothered to ask the guy eithier as i wasnt in to js before i got mine. and im happy i did buy it so im not like every other person and own a honda(nothing against them eithier, just everyone has them).now i kno a little about them and the eco but still have a ways to go.

ya i wasnt trying to make what i said rude either toward him, i was just trying to actually find the specifics. either way its cool to see another eco swapped car

will do john.by the way my name is ray(kinda late)lol but my engine is pretty dirty at the moment and need some time to clean. when i clean it ill remember to snap some pics and post them up whenever i have some time, very busy work from 8 to 1 then school from 2-8 loooooooooooooong days!!! but will get them up soon.

heres two of the outside before i changed the type j to the ls back and ww front lip

bought this whe i first got the car and liked it alot but as i get older i outgrew the kit and wanted something more clean so performed some face and a$$ surgery. lol now this is how it currently sits.much better in my opinion.

the interior is no longer painted its all black now junked the white and i only has steelies on her cuz my toe was pretty bad and destroyed my tires, all better now though and the car was just washed with the ls kit thats why the primer is chipped in the back it just happened. and i still need to paint the calipers back to black. not the best picks they were taken from my lab top.
