ok so i got an ecotec swaped into my 97 cavalier. bought the gm supercharger kit and slapped that on. dropped it off at the dealer last night...they call me this morning needing a VIN number off the car that the engine came out of. well i didn't do the swap it was done by a shop a few hours from me. i got ahold of them of course the car is long gone cause this swap was done over a year and a half ago. now, buddy that did the swap said they might be able to reflash it with the stock map for the SS cobalt. GM tried this but the tech department said its not an allowable action. i didn't think they needed a VIN for this reflash. I thought it was just a genaric program for 03-05 cavalier/sunfires. so now i am in a huge bind. does someone have a VIN I can use off a 2003 cavalier 5 speed?...that should work shouldn't it? or a reflashed computer I could buy or something...i really want this going. the guy at the dealer told me in these exact words"i think you're @!#$ out of luck without a VIN" PLEASE HELP!!!!

@!#$ me and my connection continuously messing up!
Good luck man! Lets see some videos when its all done!
Umm you need the vin the pcm is tied to.
Cause when tech line flashes the pcm the program is tied to that vin.
Now this is important because tech line updates the vins pprofile on our database so when the car gets hooked up
it auto reads the vin on the pcm and loads its updated profile off dealerworld and onto the car.
Now a tech should be able to go into the pcm with a scanner and get that vin for you.
well i found out from one of the fellas that installed the motor that the VIN is located in the bottom of the BCM under the dash and under the PCM located on the left front strut tower...you sound like you work for gm...gm told me today that they can't get the VIN number off the computer with their scan tool...any suggestions you can give i can pass onto them on how to do that as well...the gm dealer here in town seems to suck at this kind of stuff...lol thanks

OK i don't know how that dealer works or what they got but i'll tell you how a reflash works and you can pass that on to them.
Now tell them to hook a Tech 2 up to the car and then to the computer at their workstation and go onto GM dealer-world.
After that they need to go on to TIS2WEB they should know what this is next go to (SPS) or service programing system from there they will do a few more things and do whats called a pass thru programing when it does this the computer and the scanner should auto detect the VIN stored in the PCM. It will tell them to make sure it is the same that is in the window but obviously it's not going to match so ignore that it will also show the VIN number. Now write that down and call tech line now you have the PCM's valid VIN to give them and they will be able to update that cars profile. From there any tech should be able to do the rest. If there is any confusion in that just say so and i'll try to clear it up.
man thats perfect...i am printing that off and taking it to the dealer first thing in the morning

could be a vacuum line aswell. the car should still be able to run with a bad O2,it should just dump more fuel in if the O2 is bad.
check for a vacuum leak or bad sensor (MAP, TPS, etc). when i had a bad vacuum hose from my intake manifold to my MAP sensor, i had a rough idle and the odd stall. same deal too actually when my fuel pump started to go.
1997 Cavalier Z24 - 15.647 @ 88.02 MPH
sensor...map sensor...fell down by the fan and chopped 2 wires lol...thought that it was tied up outta the way...guess not lol no biggie...my buddy who is the wiring guy is on his way here now to give me a hand

Yeah thats what i was gonna say MAP or vac leak but looks like you found it. Lucky for you it's something small like that and you can get it back on the road.
make sure you are running premium 93 or higher
thats another issue
it will run poor and act retard w/ regular fuel in it
swapped, supercharged, intercooled, 2.9, fun
what about 105 or 110 octane most truck stops sell it for atvs, its expensive but if your stock setup sc setup can handle it go for it and see what it gives you for gains.
Octane doesn't give you more power it's just the measurement of how much the gas resists combustion at different compression ratios.
It help the air fuel mixture from prematurely igniting.
true.......but it clearly says in the book that you need 93+ for the supercharger or you will have issues.
cause we all know, superchargers make heat, which causes premature detonation........hence the 93+
105-110 isnt gonna help without tuning and a smaller pulley
swapped, supercharged, intercooled, 2.9, fun
Yeah thats exactly what i was trying to say with more heat and a higher compression ratio you need a higher octane fuel.
And forced induction simulates a higher compression ratio cause now your forcing more into the combustion chamber then
could be drawn in naturally.
it says 91 octane fuel which is the highest available in canada...anyway its still acting like @!#$...when that sensor got dinged by my fan it must have cooked it cause i got it on a scanner this morning and its saying the sensor is bad...so i order a new one monday...no biggie...these things happen

hahaha so turns out the sensor wasn't making me sputter when i got onto the gas...spark plug gap...lol gapped them properly and it works great...still got that code for the sensor so i am heading to the dealer to order that any minute now...but since we are on the subject of plugs...what plus do people reccomend for the supercharged ecotec 2.2?
