Unless I can find another way, I may just end up biting the bullit and buying the basic version of HPT just to control shifts. I really just need to know what the MAX rpm HPT will allow the trans to shift at. Thanks.

seeing as people are raising their redlines higher than stock, i would assume you can increase the shift point to follow suit. call me crazy, but that just might work.
personally, i doubt your car would need to shift higher than the current redline as it probably falls on its face in the powerband much earlier than 6000 rpm.
1997 RedR - ZedR
HP Tuners limits the max shift rpm to 8192, however, GM specs the max shift rpm for the 4T40 at 6500 RPM(although I suspect there is probably a few hundred rpm safety factor in there), so be careful not to make a change you will regret later.

If your car is basically stock, there is no benefit to revving the car that high, it starts losing steam around 6000 rpm.

I would only need up to about 7600-7800 max, so that's perfect. Car is far from stock and may recieve a set of sexy cams, hence the need for the higher shift point. The 4t40e has been proven to take one hell of a beating (over 100 ft-lbs more than they torque rate it). I'm curious how accurate their claims about the revs are as well.
Thanks Shane.

or u could make friends with someone local that has hpt. now i wonder who here has hpt within 30 mins of joliet...?!?!!
^^^ I believe you still have to pay $200 anyways to license another vehicle. I'd prefer to pay more to have full access to the hardware so I can change the points as need be (i.e. HO to HG2 cam changes and vice versa).

Be very careful when modifying shift tables. There are a LOT of parameters that affect shift, not just RPM. Its actually a combination of tables like Shift Vs RPM, Shift Vs TPS, Shift Vs Speed, Desired Shift Speed, Normal, Performance, Cruise, and Hot, TCC control, Part Throttle Shift, Full Throttle Shift, Force Motor Current, Shift Pressure, Torque Management...
All of those need to combine the right way to get your desired shift. Don't be surprised if you edit the shift RPM table and it doesn't do what you want it to do.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
^^^^^ Thanks Ron. I'll definately keep those parameters in mind.
