i was wondering is it ok to push the engine over 3000 rpms? or shud i keep it under ...i heard from somewhere..not sure where or when that for the first 500 or 5000 km's you shuldn't push the engine too hard? but now a neighbour of mine he takes auto classes in college pretty good with cars he's telling me you should push it because it opens up the valves???? im not sure what exactly he was talking about but can anyone clarify whats right? and what he was talking about? thanks..

is this just a break in period for the engine or something like that?

It should specify in the owner's manual. But manufacturer's says to go easy for the first 250-500 miles depending on the make. I personally always go the first 1000 miles as my break-in. Keep it under 3K and go easy on the braking too.
