daily driver, should i?

ok guys, the time has come to choose what rout i want to go with my GTP. i've already got some mean plans for it, but am considering going futher. since it's already my pride 'n joy, and will have much more money put in it after im done with this, should i get a daily? i already try to avoid driving it in the rain or slick conditions, because of the harm to my car, and the retarded drivers that are out there. i know i can drive just fine, it's the other dumba$$es that im worried about! plus it's black, so rain sucks. a friend of mine that owns a local car lot has an old beat up 4banger blazer for sale. it's a 4 speed 4wd, so it'll work all year (a must, i live in indiana). $500 and no paperwork. its very tempting. but that's $500 out of my GTP fund. so what says you. should i get a daily and make a mean ass GTP, or should i keep the pontiac tame and drive it daily. what would you do?

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.

Problem with buy an old beat up blazer is what happens if something goes wrong? A starter or altenator. You're not going to can a 500 dollar vehicle for a 70 dollar repair. Then something else little @!#$ up. Its a viscious cycle. When do you quit? Then its not just 500 from your GTP. Its a @!#$load of money before you know it.

I say a daily is a good idea if you want to make your GTP that great, but i'd wait until I could get something decent. Maybe you should just wait a little longer and spend about a grand. I know people hate this word around the JBO but buy yourself a civic. They are cheap, easy to fix, easy to get parts from junk yard or what ever, get awesome gas mileage, and they handle well in the snow. Or hell an old Nissan Sentra would be nice.

Indiana winters aren't that bad. Yes I know what they are like I lived there for 8 years before the military.

eh, it's in decent shape. body's a little banged up, but nothin too bad. engine runs fine, trannie's ok, and the 4wd works great. he was tryin to get $1000 for it, but since im a friend, he'd sell it to me for $500.

nothing says you can't make a badass GTP and not still daily drive it... There's @!#$loads of low 13 second GTPs (mine included) that run daily year round... and even a handful of 12 second ones too...

... mine's gonna be faster when it's done. it's a 14 flat car now, low 13's after this burst of mods. then it should be into the 12's and 11's eventually. and it's not that it cant be a daily. it's just gettin to the point where i dont like to drive it around some'a the retards on the road. it'll still get driven pleanty, trust me. plus i kinda want a truckish vehicle. mudding's fun.

and yeah, and i know there are some fast daily drivable GTP's out there. zooms soon to be 9 second car is daily drivable. though it cant hit 9's on street trim.

yeah. I have to agree with JuicedDSM. the problem with
beaters is that they break. Parts for the blazer won't be
free when something happens. Personally, I thing it's
an oxymoron to use beater and daily driver in the same
sentence. If you can get a reliable daily driver cheap
than go for it.. otherwise watch you GTP mod fund go
down the beater repair drain (and that would just suck).

a 4 cyl blazer...that means it a 2.5L "iron duke"...those engines are really tough engines..and slow as hell , im not saying you wont have any problems ..just saying it is a pretty reliable car

unfortunately, there's more to a car (it's reliability) than its engine.

i'd just get the GTP that fast then talk about it... I've seen waaaaay too many projects stall, because when you get that fast in a GTP, the dollars start adding up fast.

BTW.. You don't need an intercooler yet.. P&P a Gen5 SC & LIM first, get some TOG's, and a 3.25 pulley on a DHP ECU w/ a nice set of injectors... there' low 13's easy...

'doh, I forgot to say, ditch the 1.8 rockers and get a cam...

You can drive a GTP in an Indiana winter (with some mods), and probablt save the money that you spent on parts, and insurance for the blazer

i've got an XP cam with full new valvetrain, PEM's, jimmyc 3"dp and a 3.3" pulley sitting here waiting to be put on. just dont want to be stranded if it takes longer than expected.
