I was driving on Randall road in elgin IL and saw a BMW Z1. I was confused,
I thought it was a re-badged three series or something. The rear looked a little like a 3 series, but the front was totally different. And the doors were the craziest thing I have ever seen. I did a google search and found some info

anyone else ever see one of these?
I've never seen one but now I want one.
I used to live in Munich, Germany (home of BMW) and I actually saw these once in a couple months. They're pretty rare, even for Munich.
I love the doors.
wow i saw one of those at coldstone creamery while i was visiting my girlfriend at work, we couldnt figure out what it was lol. i guess we know now
Sorry.....

Weird. The only ones here would have to be imported so they're obviously extremely rare.
That said, I saw one on the road about a month ago here in Toronto, and I'm sure had the exact same confused look that you did.
It had the roof down and the doors "down" and just didn't look like any bimmer I'd ever seen before. The doors just looked like they were missing, though the overstep to get in was huge. I didn't realize why until looking it up on the Net afterwards.
Interesting doors...
How many steps to heaven, Doc?
...Ah, metaphysics.
We have a bmw z4 plant where i live, and i remember them having one of those on display. Its pretty cool. I've never seen one on the road though.
