Cutlass Supreme Idle Problem
Monday, August 15, 2005 6:40 AM
My 'ex' gfs i believe '94 Cutlass Supreme, when first started will idle between 500-1500 and bounce there for a long time. I am thinking it is a sensor but I am not 100% sure. I think it is a 3.1L or the 3100. Any Ideas???

I had an 89 regal gs with a 3.1 doing the same exact thing and I was told that it was probally either the maf or the o2 sensor. Might not be but thats what I was told.

i had this same problem with my cutty if you have the 3100 sfi (which i thought was for 95, but im not too sure)

Unfortunatly i had so many problems with this car i can't remeber exactly what it was wierd, i still loved that car but it tried to kill me more than once.

watch your cv joints!!!!!! (try going around a turn at 65 mph with out them, its not easy)

anyway, i want to say it was the egr valve (exhaust gas recirculation, i think i dunno)

basically what i was told was it got clogged with junk and needed to be cleaned out..

Does it do this when its cold or warm?

Its newer problem, so its been 60s or hotter when it has this problem. It does it so smoothly it seems like it would have to be an electronic problem. Id like to fix this next time I see her just for the 'wow you can fix something besides your fiero and cavalier' but i dont want to spend a bunch of money on parts and have it do it still. And where is the EGR valve located ???

I wonder when my 3.1 was acting up it was also acting like it was getting to much gas. Is yours also doing this?

Im trying to remeber my reasources for the 3100, but also i remeber my cruise control was all screwy, cause appaerntly there was a problem with the intake manifold gasket problem with those cars (i think thats mechanic bs, cause i never heard that) but the mechanic twisted the cruise control wire when he put it back on, and it pulled so the car idled high and had the tendency to take off (scary) so see if thats all screwy.

As far as the EGR location i couldnt expalin it with out pics, im horribvle at it, just go to autozone or something and ask them.

Hmm now I think bout it i dont know if the car does when its in Drive, I'll ask her. Emor8t do you know which side its on ? just a basic idea and I can tell, but it just seems like it would have to be an electronic because its so steady but who knows

This page might help you.

actaully im pretty sure this is what you want, i think the egr was something else. im not lying when i say i had more problems with that car than i can remeber let alone all the solutions, most expensive 40K miles of my life.

I want to say it was somewhere around that bundle of junk that comes of by the pcv valve, you know the 3 tubes in that area and then follow that behind the engine. in all honeslty between the MAP, PCV, IACV, and all the other junk around that engine i could be dead wrong, so i would strognly suggest asking someone who knows more about that car,

^those guys helped me out a few times. i had the car for over 2 years and honestly just looking at the engine it makes me want to puke. which is odd cause i absolutley loved that care but it gave me so many problems i just got fed up with fixing it and its a ll a blur.
