Celica GT-S

My girl friend just looked at one. 2002. 6 speed. It looks really nice but god damn it was so slow. I looked it up only a mid 15 1/4 mile? Whats the deal with these. Are the @!#$ or should i tell her to go ahead and get it.

Any car can be made fast man, and the GT-S isn't a super slow car either. I personally like the body style of the newer celica's, if the price is right I say go for it.

Yeah it's slow till you flog it to the redline...in each gear.

I think the 2002's might have been the ones with the lowered redline which made them a lot slower.. most of the other GTS's were al least good for a low 15.

The Celica (even more so than the Honda's that you'll hear the same argument for) was\is all about the handling very few cars at even twice the price handle as well as the Celica stock.

id like her to get the rsx-s....but we can pick up a low mile gt-s for 10 grand...

I'd look into even an RSX also, even the non type s ones. Find a decent mile used one, great cars for the money. But still the GTS is a fine ride if the price is right.

Its for your girl, I think low 15's is enough. There a pretty nice ride.

what about when i drive it? seriously. Cause shes a girl low 15s is enough?

Re: Celica GT-S

Well, yah. Is she planning on racing it? If she is then say so in your post, other wise low 15's are fine for an everyday driver. Hey man, if shes a gearhead get her a ls1 and head/cam it.

Just didn't think your girl needed an 11 sec. car to get from light to light.

Well I'd say its definitely worth it for 10K. Most Celicas are the regular GT type with the 5-speed or the auto, so a 6-speed GT-S for a reasonable price is a good find.

Sorry to hear that the car feels slow. They run in the mid 7's 0-60 and the 1/4 mile in the mid-low 15's, which in general is pretty quick. However, in order to get that kind of performance you really have to wind them out. They don't have much torque, so low-end power is really lacking compared to other cars in the class.

Just hustle the 6-speed through the gears, shift right at redline, and it should move pretty good

roscoe...arent the rsxs about a mid to low 15 second car too? I test drove a celica gts before my prelude and really liked it...but it was just too small for me. nice cars though. love the gauge set up.

My girlfriend loves cars. She cant have a rwd for the winter belive me shed love an ls1. But she would like something fairly quick. Do you have to make your cav faster? ya know what im saying

2002 Celica GT-S? I'd be all over that for $10k, maybe 8k if its negotiable.

I think they're great. They're light, and they
handle extremely well. Besides, what's hp
if the car doesn't handle well

An RSX-S will "feel" faster because it's got a good amount more torque. (whou woulda thought that I'd be saying a Hondacura has more torque than anythign else ) but in reality a well driven GTS and a well driven RSX-S are within a few tenths of each other. There are claims from both camps of high 14's stock, (with a few more coming from RSX-S side of things).

A 6 speed GTS is a nice car and if you can get a good deal on one I'd say go for it. The only thing that would make me wary is if it is one of the lowered redline ones.. it was apparently impossible to keep those ones in VVTLi on the 1-2 shift.

My mom just got a Corolla XRS which is the Celica GT-S motor I believe, I don't know, I'm not good at all this import stuff.

It is slow as hell until you wind it up to about 6000 RPM, then it starts feeling fast. I couldn't stand driving a car like that, I like my power nice and low.

Also the TQ rating sucks, it's only like 140 or something like that.

I think you got it right. The base engine in these things is probably a better choice, esp. for driving everyday.

Read the roadtests before you buy. This is but one example. Do a google search for more;

Torque on the 2ZZ-GTE (GTS motor) is ~124 ft lbs.. If I remember correctly... The K20A2 (RSX-S) is the one with ~142 ft lbs (thanks to 0.2 L extra displacement)

Power down low is nice for daily driving but in a race how often do you see the lower part of your tach? after the launch mine never sees below 6000 rpm

I think they're both sexy cars (the GT-S and the RSX). I'd go with the celica if I could get an action package. I heard the insurance on a Celica GTS will eat you alive though. I would look into that.

Aftermarket for both is great.
