Checking out some auto mags while the wife was doing grocery shopping I stumbled across a news bit in GM High Tech Performance saying that 2006 will be the last year for the GTO and GM will be without a rwd coupe to compete against the new Mustang for a few years. Better snatch them up while you can because these will probably become a collectors item a few years down the road. GM brass better figure something out or else other auto companies will leave them in the dust and they won't be able to catch up.
yea ive known this for a little while now.....not shure exactly what there gonna do, but i have seen concept pics for a 2008 camaro
F@%#!!

FWIW - they said when the GTO came out that it was only gonna be around for 3 years...
Then again, I would have thought that GM would have it's replacement (built in NA) out by then.
Perhaps not. Pity... I'll just have to keep mine...

I have an idea.
Maybe we should complain that we WANT SUV's and we don't really want any RWD vehicles, since GM does such a good job of pissing off the customer, maybe they will start making performance RWD vehicles.
I guess they don't want anything in there lineup to compete with the new comaro/TA replacement

Not to burst anyone's bubble and i may be wrong too, but i was reading in HOTROD magazine that GM has post-poned the 2008 camaro
The thing i don't understand... GM has been laying all these people off and making all these changes because they are about to go bankrupt. One thing they said they were gonna do different is make cars that customers want... so they quit making any sort of rwd coupe. Cars that customers
want?
Again, I've driven my dad's 05 quite a bit, and it was a great car. A little bland yes, but drive it and you will understand. It's probably a good thing it was a short stint.
My first car ever was a 1967 RS/SS Camaro, which I'd still have if it wouldn't have gotten stolen. If GM brought back the camaro ( I know Im praying.. ) and made it look like the first gen camaro's to battle the mustang, my SS would be for sale immediatly know matter how far along I was with it.
Ford did well with the new mustang, if GM counter's with a "retro" Camaro OR firebird it's all over for ford.
I heard a new body style was in the works for the 07 GTO, but I haven't researched that car for months so I don't know if that is true or not.
The new GTO's are great cars, they just don't have the "style" to match the performance contained within them.
No wonder GM is going downhill.
From the beginnning the GTO was only going to have a 3-year run. GM was originally going to use the Zeta platform as the basis for a number of RWD vehicles, including the next generation of the GTO, but cancelled the program when it became too costly for them to use. There was talk of using a Zeta Light platform, but nothing substantial has come out yet, so at the best you're looking at a couple of years for GM to recover and get the GTO's repalcement out to Market
Goodwrench-GT made a post about this months ago, it even had a press-release from Lutz in it.
Yella02-I promise I will return to you in one piece and this will stay up until I am safely home
Sigh..... I guess Ill have to buy a ford.....
