2005 Kawasaki Ninja 500R. Picked it up today, and put 30 miles on it already. It sucks keeping it below 4000 rpms for the break-in, though. It's SOOOOO much fun riding, even a "slow" one like this
I got a fender eliminator ordered, so hopefully that will be here soon.
Sorry about the dirtiness of it - when I was towing it home, it was raining like hell. Then, I took it out for a ride and got it more nasty. I'll wash and wax it tomorrow for some better pictures.
Enjoy
nice
im thinking about trying to get into bikes soon
im still not sure tho
That is freaking sweet looking, I love the black and silver color scheme. I don't really trust myself with a bike but as long as you like it, ride that thing all day, especially with the weather we are going to be having soon.
Have a good one,
Justin
i guess this means no FB for awhile, eh?

Same Here.
Brown Eye, thats sweet. I've been looking into the 500R myself. I want the green and black scheme though. That black and silver is pretty kick ass too.
How much did that run you if you dont mind me asking?

I have an interesting read for you pertaining to your break-in period... It may change the way the think about engine break-in procedures.

naw, i really don't have the money to buy a used car or bike without taking out a loan. that may sound kinda dumb, because i just went out and bought a brand-new bike, but i think of it like this - i could find a used vehicle for $4000 and pay 15% interest on a personal loan, or buy a new vehicle for $5000 and pay 5% interest on the loan from kawasaki. i was looking at a 66 mustang my one boss was selling, but i decided that the bike was a better decision for that reason. plus, it would be hard finding another parking spot for a car, the insurance would be higher, and i don't have a garage to keep a classic car in. there's also a lot more up-keep on a car.

I think that the only colors that new 500's come in are black and blue. the 250's come in a black and green color scheme, though. i was approved for $5000 on the loan, and when i left yesterday i wrote a check for $816 that covered everything else (helmet, plate, registration, $65 of the insurance, etc.). if i would've waited until winter, i could've got some money off, but it is june, so bike are selling for MSRP. i don't know if i could've waited that long, though
Rob, thanks for the link. i was reading about something similar on a forum, and i wasn't really sure how to go about break-in. i may have to change what i've been doing
Thanks again for the comments, everyone
Nice to see you're happy with it, no doubt its fun. I just can't handle the ancient styling they use on the sub-600 bikes. If they styled the 250 and 500 to look like the 600 or liter bikes, I'd really like them. However, I can't handle owning a bike that looks almost exactly the same as a 600r looked in 1989. Good luck with it, and remember to wear your gear.

its nice, i like,
i still want a gsx-r though

Well the guy on that site says that he has done that with 300 engines or something like that.... it makes sense that the rings would seal up better....
He brings up the valid point of why does the manufacturer tell you to do the opposite of what is good for the engine?

Cool man.....nice bike! Believe me.....you'll learn a lot on that bike. Save up for that full cowl........you won't regret it!
Thanks again for all the compliments...
Tribals, you said that you had a set of flush-mount front signals. How did you install those, since the area where they are mounted is curved? Also, I probably won't be getting the full lower cowl. I may actually do the opposite and remove the small lower fairing that's on there. I had it off while I was changing the oil, and I thought it looked really good (but I also love naked bikes, so that probably has something to do with it).
If I can remember right I believe it did sit flush with a bit of adjusting. I don't think I drilled out new holes. The turn signals are pretty small.
I like the full lower cowl, but I am the opposite......I like the dressed up bikes. One thing that did suck though with the lower cowl was I had to unbolt it to change the oil.
What type of oil are you using? I was using Castrol Syn. 20/50, but switched to Motul and this made for better/smoother shifts. Very expensive oil though!
Well, I have a little update:
I put clear lens/black housing mini signal lights on the front and back, a fender eliminator kit from Competition Werkes, and did a "dual headlight" conversion with some black vinyl. I also took off the lower fairing and cargo tie-downs. I think it looks a hundred times better, but that's mostly because I love naked sport bikes (Yamaha FZ1/FZ6, Suzuki SV1000S/SV650S, Honda 919/599, Kawasaki Z1000/Z750S/ZRX1200R). Well, on to the pictures:
Here's a front-end comparison. I'm not crazy about how the headlight turned out, so I'm going to re-do it. I'll say one thing though - the Silverstar bulb was well worth the $15 it cost me.
Posing with the Cav. I also made this into my sig.
Tribals, I'm using Valvoline 10W-40 motorcycle oil. We sell it at work, so I'm using it because I get a discount on it. It's good oil, I guess. It's easier to shift compared to the factory oil that was in there. I thought I've read that using synthetic on wet clutches can be bad for them?
My next modifications are going to be a D&D 2-1 exhaust with black piping and a black canister, K&N cone filters for the carbs, and a Dynojet stage 3 jet kit. I've already removed the one stock canister (passenger side, I guess?) and it sounded like a cross between a go kart and my buddy's SV650S (which also has a D&D exhaust). Needless to say, I think that it will sound really good with a quality exhaust.
Well, that's all I have for now. Leave some comments!
woah woah, I see a Jeep in the background. I thought you said your dad was getting rid of it?
I dig the new changes. The bike is real stealth looking with the color scheme.
Have a good one,
Justin
Cool man.....looks much better with the smaller lights. Not sure about the headlights though.
Still going to get the slipons?
you should invest in some flying lessons too
yer gonna need him when you ride into the back of that 80 yr old ladies buick
Justin Cox wrote:woah woah, I see a Jeep in the background. I thought you said your dad was getting rid of it?
yea, my dad changes his mind as much as I do, so for right now he still has the Jeep. he's now talking about selling the Jeep and buying an older car and a bike. but, i won't believe it until i see it
well, I bought the exhaust, a black/carbon fiber D&D 2-1 system:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4559087352&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
so, I'm excited about that. I also bought some red tireflys (they are continuous light, not the flashing ones). now, some people will say that those are gay, but if it helps me to be seen at night, that's all that matters to me.
