I need some help with figureing out what cars should be accepted in Domestic Driver Magazine. Ever since J-Body Magazine switched to Domestic Driver Magazine it seems like everyone is getting on me about what cars are in the magazine and why I won't accept some cars and how they aren't domestic. Cars like a Ford Festiva...
I'm trying to determine a good way of defining what is accepted and what isn't. With J-Body Magazine it was easy becuase it just had to be a J-Body.
I considered accepting ALL CARS made by Ford, GM, Chrysler,... even if they were built in another country or were copies of another foreign car like the eagle talon... This would also end the war of "what is small car mean? Is my Dodge Stratus a small car?"... So now all cars Small to Full Size would be accepted.
What do you guys think we should do? HELP!
I bieleve anything that has a American name. Regardless if it has import stuff. Like a TSi Talon, Pymouth laser, a Dodge Stealth Is still a domestic. Or even if the domestic is custom with a honda engine. Its still truley a doestic IMO. But thats just how I see it.

Let's face it... the entire concept of "foreign vs. domestic" is completely meaningless in this day and age and only used to try and instill patriotism in otherwise ignorant buyers.
So far as I'm concerned, "domestic" would be whatever best promotes your local economy. For me, a GM w-body or a honda Civic are equally domestic, as is the Ford Crown Victoria and Freestar, and the new DC LX cars (300/Magnum/Charger).
For any of the other members here, it could be completely different.

I agree...
And Kev, aren't all cars in Canada technicly Imports since there are no Canadian Automakers?

It's up to you to decide which you'd rather win.
Well that's just the thing... we produce all sorts of cars here so I suppose those could be considered domestics. But is DaimlerChrysler seriously considered a "domestic" automaker to you guys? I mean... it's run by the German's, isn't it?
Still a American name, regardless. Just like Lexus and Infinite are still american names. Although owned by japanese companys. But I mean I still love to see Cavys, focuses, neons (the usual domestic compact cars) along with G35's and even Cobalt SS hehe

I think it should just be american made cars. Eagle talons can get publicity in any other mag. the same as the eclipse. And I think you should stick to smaller cars. There's plenty out there.
My Car
I don't care what you put in the mag, as long as its not a honda. I'm so tired of seeing hondas, hearing about hondas, only able to find car books full of hondas and honda parts aaaahhhhhhh! I think this mag is a great thing. And I think even a car like a ford festiva ,as strange as it sounds, would have more after-market support if it was in a bunch a magazines with interviews with the owners that love to mod that specific car.

well since now cavaliers arnt made in the us any more gues there can't be any more cavs.
i mean honestly what is more domestic, a cavalier being made in mexico, or a honda being made in ohio? is it better to feed the owner of the company (gm) or is it better to feed a foreign owner who happens to be employing allot of american workers?
eagle is no more foreign then any ford product or vice versa. if it were me i'd say put any car in it that you think is hot. i enjoy a good looking honda as much as i do a good looking cavalier. if you want to really keep it as domestics, just do your basic gm ford etc. the big american companies.

I think it should be GM ( lines, saturn, etc..), Ford, Dodge. Also should be sportcompact cars.
I will say I like looking at all cars, honda's Mustangs etc... , but I want to be able to look at my kind when I want to.
FU Tuning
Just go with all Cars made by the Big Three.. or two and a half now. You can cater to just the sport compact market, or you can go all out and do them all.
You might lose some focus though if you cater to all domestics. Maybe go with all domestics that are fuel injected?
just keep it to real sport. a sport compact in my opinion is a cheap, reliable car that is turned into a performer. i subscribe to sport compact car and i hate reading about cars that i will never in my life time be able to afford and they arent really ''sport compacts''
Please help me refine this statement:
Featuring GM, Chrysler, Dodge, and Ford Badged Small to Mid-Sized Cars
I think this will give us a standard to go by and will be specific enough. What do you all think?

I assume you mean Cobalts since they stopped making Cavaliers. Since they build Cobalts about 10 miles from my house, where they also built Cavs and Sunfires, and I don't live in Mexico I'm pretty sure they're built in America. That's one of the reasons I bought a Sunfire, it's built by guys that live in my area, it directly affects my neighbors.
im saying all GM compact cars, cavalier, fire, ION, s series, grand am, cobalt, solstice etc... and then all the neons, focus, talon and whatever domestic compact cars are out there
do not add mustangs/camaro's, there not part of the sport compact idea, and our cars get hardly any respect from most of the owners of them
so pretty much any compact car with a american nameplate
This is a new magazine and you can do articles on whatever kind of cars you want. What I think you should do is stick to only American sport compacts, j bodys, neons, focuses...because if you start to do articles on talons eclipses hondas, do you think a honda fan is going to pick it up over honda tuning or import tuner? no...and do u think the j body fan would pick it up to read about a dsm? nope, you would lose twice...stick to the most popular domestic sport compacts, I dont particularly wanna read about a ford fiesta either, but hey id be pretty interested if they could make one cool...if everything wuz up to me it would be simply j body, bcuz i have a cavalier
id say it would be cars from gm ford and chrysler, even though many hondas and toyotas and stuff are made in america, when you say domestic....people think of gm, ford, chrysler, and when you say import most people think, honda, toyota, nissan..........so id go with gm, ford, chrysler only, and of couse the smaller makers, shelby, dmc, saleen and others

BAM !!!! theres our magazine
How does this sound: Featuring Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, and GM Small to Mid-Sized Cars from 1980+
Matt Burns - No one ever said anything about covering honda's.
97cavy22 - We wanted to go that way at one point but decided that still didn't open enough doors for us. Plus i noticed that you put a Grand Am as a sport compact car, many would argue with you there. That is why we decided to consider Mid-Sized cars so we can have cars such as Grand Am's, and Stratus.

Does this mean you will cover the Talon? Please say yes. I will have a goal to work for if you cover talons. HAHA.
Since Chrysler I think made eagle for a time then yes it would be considered.
oo ok, i thought sndsgood said you should cover hondas because they were made in ohio, sorry didnt read well enough
All American Names, but nothing older then lets say 95!
