so i'm finally fed up with the red turd.
i'm leaning towards a 98/99 Scooby 2.5RS. ebay has two for around the $6k mark - which i might actually get for the corolla - but i'm sortof leary about ebay. the closest vehicle to me is in NJ...and looks beat(though the auction says otherwise).
i'm still learning about the boxer engine, as well as what i could get in the realm of aftermarket parts for it. i know there are resident experts here for just about every car, so who's the resident Impreza expert?
and yes, i know allll about "nabisco" - i've been browsing those forums lightly so far, but haven't really dived in head first.
grrquack.
yep...that would be it...heh. members call it nabisco because it's easier than trying to spell out the acronym.
grrquack.
wow...so NO ONE else knows ANYTHING about these cars? heh...i find that hard to believe.
i did find out that the 98 RS has a DOHC with a bad headgasket, that tends to go boom eventually, whereas from 99-present they use an SOHC that's more stable.
meh. get a good metal headgasket for the heads, and i'm good to go. just gotta find a 98 in good shape with a 5-spd.
grrquack.
my buddy really wants to get a 2.5rs, but he just bought a bike, so he's dirt poor. that's really all i can add to the discussion
i do like them, though. i'd say go for it
if that beat one you're talking about is the white one, then yes - it looks beat. it needs a new paint job right from the start, along with a good scrubbing of the engine bay. the interior looks good, but i think the car's been rallied a few times
agreed.
i want a car that was some little old man's car, who finally gave it up...heh
grrquack.
if you get that car, fell free to throw me a line. freehold is only like about a 45 minute drive from linden. ive seen that one too, but i like the coupe 2.5rs better, more of that STi 555 look
thank you and have a good day
CarDomain
I have a friend with a 2000 2.5RS
Pretty nice car. Good low end torque, but drop off at the top end.
We will race one of these days. lol
He's had a couple problems already: rear wheel bearing (nice 3 hour job)
valve cover gskt, and prob a couple other things.

agreed...i'm not going to consider that one, just because it's beat to hell. i'm looking around locally, and checking "NABISCO" for one. craigslist is coming in handy, too.
grrquack.
N/a 2.5RS, with some bolt-ons. He made his own intake to suck in air through his scoop. Sti sway, drilled rotors, vibrant muff, 10 spoke rims, huge wing. (stock)
My cardomain
yeah - i like the stock wing
i'm not surprised about the bearings going out - i'd probably get them cleaned, inspected, and repacked within the first few months of ownership.
beyond that - i'd have all gaskets checked out soon after purchase, to see just how much life they have left.
grrquack.
www.cobbtuning.com <- they make everything
I wanted a 2.5RS, but I'm happy with what I've got.
cherub - thanks for the site - i'll check it out later on today
grrquack.
scoobie, and nabisco?
Sounds like scoobie snacks.
soobie.

heh...well, subaru owners and members of the club use those terms. from spending far too much time with them, i've picked them up.
...they also get miffed if you call them subies.

thanks for fixing it...i suck at the internet...lol.
i like the older gens...then again, i can AFFORD them. if you want to buy me a 2000+ one, i'll take it
grrquack.
the WRX's...there drive shafts look like broom stick's if u ever look under one...lol
..this is justin i meet u at arts......red sunfire
ahhh HEY Justin! nice ta meet ya. if you
well, i was talking to Donovan, and he might buy the corolla...which is cool, because i know he'd take care of her...and i'd still get to see her...and all that good stuff.
i also found a 5spd 2000 2.5RS in Aberdeen going for $7500...which really isn't half bad. it's silver with the black RS interior...w00t. all she needs is tint, a drop, a good set of wheels and intake/exhaust - and she'll be nice as hell.
grmf. what to do, what to do. i gotta talk to scruf, and get his opinion on it.
are these the turbo'd 2.5's or NA?
n/a...i can't afford the insurance on the newer ones.
well scratch the one in Aberdeen...talked to some people, and a few guys know the owner - apparently the poor car's been abused to hell.
the search continues
hey, if ANYONE knows a person who is selling their 98-00 5speed 2.5RS send them my way...thanks...
