Saweet!!
General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz’s promises, the base price of the 2006 Pontiac Solstice roadster will be less than $20,000 -- just barely.
The Solstice will carry a sticker price of $19,995, including a $575 destination charge, when it goes on sale this summer. Lutz announced the base price Tuesday.
Pontiac expects to begin accepting orders from dealers this spring, a Pontiac spokesman said.
Base equipment on the Solstice includes a 177-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine; five-speed manual transmission; four-wheel disc brakes; power steering; and 18-inch wheels.
The option list includes packages for power-operated windows, locks and mirrors, and leather-trimmed interior. Anti-lock brakes, limited-slip rear differential, XM satellite radio and a radio that includes a plug in for an external digital music player are stand-alone options.
A well-equipped Solstice will have a sticker price of around $24,000, a Pontiac spokeswoman said.
The Solstice’s base price undercuts the competing Mazda Miata by more than $2,000. The base price of a 2005 Miata is $22,658, including a $560 destination charge. The top trim level Miata, the MX-5 Mazdaspeed Grand Touring, carries a base price of $27,140 including the destination charge.

Cool, I hope the Sky is just as cheap.
it should be, possibly even cheaper

They just keep upping the HP rating on the ecotecs, little by little. This engine was originally rated at 170. Maybe thats why they haven't released it yet, waiting for some reliability tests to come back.

^^On the Solstice. As of now the Saturn Sky is still at 170HP but the Torque has went down to 162 ft lb.
I guess it depends on the car it goes on, it will get the better numbers.
Sorry to say the Saturn Sky will be price higher. Remember Saturn is going to be more upmarket then Pontiac. Think Oldsmobile's spot.
So expect a $22-24K price tag on the Sky.

id still prefer the mx5 mazdaspeed grand touring model
Good price...too bad it looks like a bar of soap.
i think i heard prices of the sky at about $25k starting.
it's a reasonable price for a roadster. I think they will have quite a few on pre-order. If i was in the market for a 2 seater, i'd take a second look.
Goodwrench: any official word on the curb weight yet?
www.drluc.ca
for that sticker price, go get an used 350Z and be happy.
Sappy, ya you are right but as of now its a
estimated price and its found here.
Spikma,
Nothing "Official" yet on the Solstice, the closest thing is just to get an idea.
Saturn Sky
I will say around 2800lbs even, cuz it will not carry the power options as standard equipment like the Sky, which can add weight.

Spikma,

That is the worst attempt at my name i have ever seen.
2800 is still kinda heavey for a 2 seater roadseter with a 4 banger. i would like to see itat 2500-2600lbs, miata territory, but it will prbably end up close to teh 350Z. I don't understand why a roadster needs to be built like a tank.

Sweet! and the Sky is nice too...
how fast will this thing be?
-Borsty
Sky will be 22k when it first comes out. Expect about 25k for the supercharged one in another year is what i heard.

If it really has 177 HP and weighs 2800 lbs, It should be good for high 14's (keep in mind it's also RWD, so you should be able to cut under 2.0 60's even on stock tires.)

^You nailed it with the RWD issue. RWD is one main key in a performance car. These Kappa twins has to perform well because of that trait.

yeah that was my next question...when does it come out with the 2.0 SC?
nice, the Solstice is the next car I was thinking of getting, I'll just have to wait till RSM makes a supercharger for it
then I will look at getting one.
the only thing w/ the rwd is the drivetrain loss
guesstimate 15%
which would be about 26.55

it wont be much, itll probably have a aluminum driveshaft and a small tranny, it most likey would the same loss as a fwd car. maybe a tad more.
