badass.
the loyalists will ball though...

I agree, the loyalists won't like this, but something like this makes me more interested in a Mustang.
Ah, I was waiting for this. Let's have fun with BOOOOST!

I own a Fox with a 5.0 in it. I love boost. This makes my dick hard.

Holy @!#$ this is amazing.... and I just can't get sick of that body style...
The Ecoboost in a mustang? Badass, but I thought Ford was bringing back the 5.0 in the GT?
@!#$ you ford...I say this because i'm not a ford fan at all and I really like this idea. Its going to piss a lot of people off and I love that idea even more. I think a muscle car with a boosted v6 would be amazing. As long as it's making decent power, like this car is. I even like the looks. I wonder what the price tag on it will be.
WIN WIN WIN!!! GM, are you watching?
Pending comment from Mr Goodwrench, I bet the V8 is still an option, hell, it will probably get a HP increase.
Now...let's hope they gave it enough of a fuel system to get it to about double factory output.
I've been waiting for this bravo ford.

I think bigfoot is blurry,
that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra
scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster, roaming the countryside.

They did. All 2011 GT's have the 5.0 standard. I doubt the Ecoboost will be a GT option.

Damn no edit lol.
Just noticed that car is a gt lol. Eat my words.
With upgraded Brembos on the front, that's going to be playing in GT500 territory

Is this just a rumor?? According to Ford's web site it is not an option in any model of the mustang.
http://www.fordvehicles.com/cars/mustang/models/
To be completely honest I don't think the Taurus ecoboost engine will ever make it into the top performance model. The Shelby GT500 is a perfect fit with its 5.4 supercharged engine. As everyone else already stated the loyalist which are the ones who buy the top model mustangs will NEVER have it.
I can't even see the ecoboost engine replacing the 6cyl at some time as those consumers are more interested in using the car as a daily driver and getting good gas mileage. Those buyers want the mustang looks without the high price tag of the performance models. The current 3.7 is undoubtedly cheaper to produce. The current 3.7 gets 305hp and 280tq which is plenty for the 6cyl crowd while still getting 19/31mpg. Putting the ecoboost in the mustang would drive the price up and the 365hp and 350tq would not seem appealing to 6cyl buyers when the mpg also drops to 17/25. They might as well buy a GT at that point.
With the return of the 5.0 in the GT for the obvious reason I doubt they would ditch that engine in favor of the ecoboost anytime soon!
I really don't think this will ever happen. If it does though I think it is most likely to be the engine that goes into the a new model of mustang. After all Ford has only had 50 billion variations of the Mustang already. I can't hardly keep track of them all. There is the V6 line, GT, SVT, Boss, Cobra, Shelby, Rouch with stages no less, I could see them doing a mustang SHO to put this engine into a car model that it would make sense to see it in. This could be a way for them to bridge the gap between the younger crowd and the crowd that owned a previous SHO car before. I would guess if they did they would be slipping it between the GT and the Shelby GT500
Anyone disagree?
FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
^^ Nope.
It's not listed as an option for the 2011, because it hasn't been released to the market yet. I expect to see it as a 2012 model, and probably come in between the V6 and GT name plates.

One of the Ford reps in my district, says that Ford HQ is tight lipped on where this engine will slot, but their hint/guess it will slot exactly like on the F-150's line up. This engine will surely will not be anemic in anyway... but in the latest Ford's fashion they are upping their game and so Ford is already bumping its power output, they did for F150, and soon in the SHO (400HP), so it is only natural the Mustang would get it too.
Personally it would be a big mistake if they drop the 5.0L after all the time/money invested... not to mention loose the loyalist mentioned above.
Either way any news that goes through my ears I'll pass along to you guys.

I like the idea. Cant wait to see how they perform.
"Remember do what you like because you have to drive it."--Me
I like it and as long as the moniker "GT" isn't associated with the EcoBoost v6 it would be a nice little compromise. If this thing ends up making 400hp in the the v6 Mustang they would have to at least bump the GT up to 450 - 465 don't you think? The GT500 is still producing 550hp if I'm not mistaking. Ford would have a nice vehicle to every just about any driver at any power range they would want.
Any chance the EcoBoost might be used to give the v6 model line their own "Shelby/Cobra" like Mustang? It's obvious the people who buy the v6 and the GTs are two entirely different animals when it comes to Mustang. I guess what I'm asking is what are the chances if this comes into fruition that it would carry some kind of Shelby badging? I mean it wouldn't be the first time a v6 carried the Shelby name. I remember when the S197s starting rolling out, people could have their v6s shipped to the Shelby plant in Vegas to be equipped with the Shelby CS6 package.
The only problem I can see with this situation is that price of this car (popularly equipped) would probably end up being mid 30K or better and for that price the diehard v8 enthusiasts would opt for the GT.
It is still a ugly ass Mustang!!! 03-04 Cobra anyday over this crap.
