Subie modding slowly begins
Thursday, September 23, 2010 8:26 AM
Well as some have seen I got rid of the cavy for a 2010 Impreza 2.5i..so far I love everything about it. I've done some small little mods and will have more coming in the next month or so.

First mod I did was pinstripping the grille and Rear Diffuser and debadging the trunk, except for the subaru emblem because there is a recession and holes.

I've got a wrx spoiler on the way and should be getting the windows tinted within the next couple weeks, wheels will probably come in the spring. Looking for a deal on an exhaust, but my just pick up some tips in the mean time to fill in the cut-outs.

I'm up in the air on tinting the tails slightly but really with the pinstripping I think they look good, we'll see what happens when I tint the windows.
Also they sell a carbon fiber trunk piece to replace the chrome, so I may grab one of those also.

This is about the look I'd like to end up with, clean and subtle.

Comments are welcome

I think I like it. But, agree that with the red pinstripe the tails look good red. I would get some red metalcast and do them totally red.

I did this to my old Cav, heres a pic for reference:

I love this style imprezza but think it needs the hood scoop and associated goodies.

They sell vinal over lays for those taillights if I do recall.

Looks sweet. I love that white. Now chop that exhaust off.

I do think they make overlays for the tails, but they are growing on me, I'll have to deicde when I tint the windows. I'm looking into a magnaflow wrx exhaust right now for $200, it'll bolt right up, I need to get some tips in those cutouts.

Gotta admit I was afraid when I read that you added pinstripes, but that wasn't how my head pictured it! Looks good I think, different...made me think VW (which in my head is negative, but this isn't bad hah). It does help with the tails, I'd leave them as they are. If you tint them a bit, you've got another color going on. White Imprezas can look soooooo smooth! That's some cheap exhaust you found, do you have a link to an audio clip anywhere? I was looking briefly for my Legacy, but anything that sounded good was closer to $1k.

The exhaust is just an axelback unfortunately (and it's used), I can't get a clip right now since I'm at work, but there are clips on youtube I know.

For the tails, I'd do them about like this

but thanks for the comments everyone

you prob already know, but make sure the exhaust you're getting is from a sedan, as the hatch muffler setup is something completely different. i work on these all day, so you've got my interest. looks pretty clean so far though. keep it up!

Yessir, it's a dual exahust from the sedan, I know the hatch's muffler runs sideways across the rear.

Thanks, my goal is to keep this as clean as possible, just like my cav was. Can't wait to throw some wrx sways on it and have some fun

I'd paint the rest of your front grille black, I think that'll clean it up, instead of having a tri-colored grille. Other than that, you're off to a good start. I actually like the all black rims and slightly smoked tails, I think that'll look sick once you do that.

Here's a clip with magnaflow and a borla header, sounds amazing. They also are releasing Unequal Length Headers for the 2.5i with will sound great, I definitely will be picking up a set.

Guess for the money it's not bad. Not the type of sound I'm going for though... I'll keep looking Keep posting pics of the car too!

like it, clean and simple

unequal length headers will decrease the performance of the car. i know on the turbo'd cars they were gaining around 20hp going to the equal length headers. will agree that they sound great.

Yeah.. on an N/A they will drop some lower end power but will make up for it in the higher end. With the 2.5i it's purely just for the sound of it, the performance is really negligible IMO. I do know a lot of the wrx/sti guys are gaining power with EL though, my buddy has a Dark Grey Metallic WRX with a few things done to it, car sounds great and is a blast to drive, but I still love mine.

Yeah I know what you mean on the sound. I would like to do the same thing to my outback sport. But I just don't have the money to spend. Because if I start in the front I want to continue on back replacing the whole exhaust. Btw subies ftw. Lol

lol yeah I feel the same way, I took the mufflers off yesterday just to see how it sounds (having flanges right behind them ftw). I really liek how the sound came out I was expecting it to be obnoxious and loud and sound like @!#$ like on most cars, but it sounds great. My buddy is welding me up some tail pipes with tips and I'll just be running a straightpipe on it.

I'll try and post some vids up of it sometime, but the price of the headers is like $550, so I prolly wont do it because that is a lot for no gain (maybe even a loss) and some sound. Probably done for now as far as engine stuff and focus on suspension mods and the exterior stuff I would like to get done.

I dunno about those wheels... you have a very clean, newer, almost adult version of the Impreza... and cheap looking childish wheels. I dunno man, they kinda cheapen the car to me. I would have saved up and found THE right wheel for the car. I don't think those are it.

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

There is a very good chance of that in the near future. They look almost chrome in that pic, but in person they look like more of a gunmetal color. They are better than the steelies and hubcaps I had on there.

i have to agree with JL, they do look cheap and ruin the look of the car.
And they look so tiny

But still love the car!
