ThatGuy85's Miata build

It's a little early to start a build thread, but I decided to say screw it, and start one anyway. So, here she is:

Still hasn't been painted yet. That's the first order of buisness as soon as I get my tax return back.

As for what I have planned for it? Well.... Hehe...

Just came in today. This will be the first car that I've ever turbo'ed, so I've been reading a LOOOOOOT of threads on the miata forums. The good thing is that these cars can hold up pretty well with stock internals on relatively low boost.

Next on the 'buy' list is a megasquirt standalone ecu, some higher cc injectors, etc etc.

I'll post new stuff as I add it.

hurry along I expect results!!!!

I think bigfoot is blurry,
that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to
me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster, roaming the countryside.

Blasphemy!!!

This is going to be a budget build, and so far I haven't done too bad.

96 Miata with PEP package: 2500
Turbo: 120 shipped

The ecu I'm looking at is about 500, the injectors I want have been going for about 60 shipped for all 4.

Goal of this build is to reach about 200 RWHP.

color me jealous!

i'd LOVE to get a miata... probably not happening any time soon for me though. i'd be doing some suspension work before boosting personally but that's just me.

congrats!

I'd love to get some suspension work done, and believe me it will after this turbo install is done. It already handles REALLY nice already though, and that's on stock suspension. Although my opinion is biased since my only comparison is a cavalier's stock suspension.

Could be a good build. You have the turbo but do you have the intercooler, intercooler tubing, turbo mani/header, etc etc yet? If so/not you doing ur own intercooler piping job or buying a kit or whatever?

Nope! lol I have none of that yet. I'll slowly be acquiring all of these parts over the next few months. It really depends on what kinda deals I find, and what intercooler I end up going with.

Something MegaSquirt comes this way...

Running total:

Car: 2500
Turbo: 120
ECU: 625
--------------
Total: 3245

Maybe I shouldn't keep track of all I've spent....

u decide on what color to paint yet?

i still say with the tan interior, you need a dark/deep red/maroon color.
then powderocat/paint the rims gold/bronze-ish color!

Paint it purple and run pink rota slips......

But really that car would look BA in Cyber Grey or something similar.

Definitely interested in this build!

Y'know I've been going back and forth between a deep cherry red, and black. Black would be FAR cheaper, but I think the red would look really sharp too. I just can't decide!

The rims won't be touched for a while. The stock ones are decent enough for now until I go turbo and have trouble keeping the car straight lol. The gold/bronze rims with red would look sexy. If I paint it black, I may get something like this:

Or this:

Second picture failed but that first one was clean and sexy. Those rims are great regardless of the color haha.

You are not an enthusiast if you don't break 300hp though!!!!!

Not unintentionally accelerating since 2009!!!!

Lmfao..... Miatas arent supposed to be too overpowered, they'd just spin i would imagine.

Those bronze wheels are Konigs Heliums. Same ones I'm running only mine are black.

Damn, pre-mature post. In fact I think i'm even running the same tires.

More on topic...looks like you're off to a pretty good start. I'm curious as to why you ran the Megasquirt instead of a piggy back system. You'll have more than enough tunning capabilities and data logging for a much cheaper price. Not to mention 100x easier to install. Megasquirt is going to be a wiring nightmare. I'm running Greddy E-manage Ultimate and its plenty. For a 200whp goal its perfect. I'll be using it to my goal of 300hp. Don't get me wrong now. Megasquirt is fantastic. Its just harder on the wallet, wont be as easy to install, and not as user friendly to tune as a good piggy back.

Actually the PNP is a direct replacement of the stock ECU. Hooks up to your stock wiring harness, all you need is to run a vac line for the MAF, then plug in the serial cable to a laptop and tune away

I haven't gotten much time to install or play with this yet but I'll probably fiddle with it this weekend.

Ahhh I forgot they make em for the miata. When I boosted my tercell it wasn't an option lol. If you're running megasquirt ditch the mad and get a map sensor. People have been known to gain 6-8hp from losing the restriction of the maf. Plus you can keep it cleaner and don't have to recirculate your bov and run a hose tapped into your ic piping.

Yep I plan on deleting it. With this MS you are able to do that, you just need a GM IAT sensor in place instead.
