Heh. Things are a little different culturally in Cape Town.

But apparently, Japanese auto defects that can kill cross all cultures and national borders!

Vanilla Nurse was killed on her second birthday in Cape Town in September last year when the car she was sleeping in caught fire.

Why was a two year old sleeping in the car and where were the parents?

Please corporations...protect me from myself!

I just took a look inside the recalled accelerator pedals from Toyota...Friggin rediculous design if you ask me...Everything about the damn this is a great big Failure waiting to happen ...including Toyotas fix for it..which is installing a shim behind the return spring with no method of securement.

Wow, surprisingly.....thats still only the 2nd worth while recall that I have seen on the Fits.
Still, probably the only foreign car that I'd consider buying right now.

They need a recall for comon sense? Water and electronics don't mix, who would have thought! Personally when it's raining I close the doors and windows so water doesn't get inside my car.

I'd hardly consider a recall for a window switch on one car line as contributing to "@!#$ hitting the fan"

Re: Honda Fit gets recalled

However, throttle pedals hitting the floor (and staying there!) is most definitely Mr. Poop meeting Mr. Spinning Blades!

So a few Hondas burst into flames too. What's the big deal?

The recall is because when rolled up, water is getting its way into the switch. Not just when the window is down.

In fact 90% of Master switches I've replaced on customer vehicles have been due to corrosion from water contamination. The reason Honda's create fires? I dunno, Have not had a switch from one apart yet...but obviously something was not quite thought all the way through. Be interested to know what.

For the recall:
Meh, @!#$ happens. At least they are fixing it and its nothing serious.

For the 2 year old left in car:
Call me over protective or paranoid, but my child is NEVER left anywhere un-attended except her bedroom when she sleeps and i'm in the house still. Paranoid? Possible, but my kid is still alive.

Nah, cars that set themselves on fire are nothing serious. Honda are such princes for fixing them before the NHTSA fines them million$. Yes, surely Honda only does it out of the goodness of their American-dollar fueled hearts!

As if the child that died could be anything more than a distraction for Jap-nutswingers to try (in vain!) to distract from the self-igniting vehicles
You go boys!

Last I read there were 3 documented cases world wide of fire, call me a nut swinger all you want but I'm not at all worried about my car bursting into flames.

I find the irony in you pointing out nut swingers. Being that if its from Detroit (or should I say Canada/mexico) you're all over it. You seem to be the poster child for nut swingers.

Haha I knew a select few would get defensive/offensive about this recall as soon as I read the title.

All I can say is the fall is MUCH harder when you've been put on a pedestal all your life

Hmmmm, last i checked no Japanesse car makers needed a government bailout. Recalls can be fixed, it's a engineering failure that can fixed rather quickly. Bankruptcy is a complete failure of the entire corporate structure. which resulted in cheap lousy products nobody wanted. That's not an easy fix. Rip on japanesse auto makers all you want they still will never match the epic fail of GM and Chrysler. A pedal and window switch can be fixed, building total garbage and over paying people to do it for decades is the real joke.

Just because your biased doesn't make anyone who doesn't agree with you a nut swinger who is defensive. Personally I don't care if it's a recall on a car I own or not, that has nothing to do with it, it's about a recall being a window switch. Nobody acted like it was the nail in the coffin for American car makers when the vette had a recall for the steering columns catching fire (which they shouldn't have, but the point is the same either way). If the Toyota pedal problem never happened this would barely be a blip on the radar. It was minor on the vette and it's minor on the fit, I never saw it as a huge blow to GM, the same as I don't see this a huge blow to Honda let alone Japan automakers in general.

How about the VW coil recall that's going on. A recall so large and costly it has it's own website (vwcoils.com). It covers every VW engine with individual coil over plug, that means 1.8T, 2.0T FSI, 2.5, 3.2, 3.6, 4.0 W8, 6.0 W12 and noone is talking about it.

Lets use a 2003 Passat 1.8T for example as to were the bias comes from. If it hasn't been seen by a dealer in years you'd most likely see recalls to rewire the drivers side heated seat (because it gets to hot and burns through the leather), new switch for the passenger heated seat, new switch for the brake lights (a recall to replace the already recalled switches), new turn signal relay/hazard switch, a reflash for the ECM, removing a foam block near the air box, checking and possibly replacing a fuel line from the gas tank to the engine bay, installing new heat shields underneath the car by the cat, replacing a seal around the pollen filter housing along with cutting the ends off the sunroof drains and removing a drain grommet under the battery tray, new fuel pump, and new ignition coils...... all that's no big deal, never talked about despite having multiple fire hazards because they aren't a Japanese company "on pedestal". But a window switch on Honda's cheapest entry level car is the nail in the coffin for all of Japan? What a joke.

Be VERY careful how you interpret my statement. I am NOT biased one way or the other, I was saying that people like you would defend the companies rep, while people like Hahn would rub it in your face. Don't fool yourself, Honda and Toyota have long been the "standard" of a reliable quality automobile, hence they are held to that standard by most. Of course truely biased people are going to crucify them when the eff up.

You don't need to bring any examples of domestics faults to my attention personally, I'm well aware of them

Re: Honda Fit gets recalled

Explain "people like you". As far as defending the companys rep... I don't care what type of rep they have, nor have I defended it. It doesn't effect me in any way. All I'm saying is a window switch is hardly a nail in a coffin for any car, brand, country of automakers. The only reason this is being talked about is because the Toyota recall is so high profile.... Which has nothin to do with Honda, the Fit, or the window swothes try use. This window switch recall is minor.

Look at the rep cavaliers have, I still drove it and liked mine, some of you might be simple enough to worry about what others think.... I'm not. I'd e argueing the same point regardless of the company that makes the car.
