We know about the the Vibe's demise.
"Toyota Motor Corp. may offer to supply a version of its Prius hybrid car to General Motors Corp. during a meeting between the companies’ chief executives, two people familiar with the plan said."

But not until the UAW leaves.
Toyota is willing to close it if it can't build the Prius there profitably. As we know from GM & Chryslers troubles the UAW does not make a vehicle profitable.

I just read the other day that GM was dumping the NUMMI facility into "old GM". Is this Toyotas way of trying to stop that from happening?

An update with NUMMI with reports that are emerging from Japan that Toyota has decided to end all production at California's New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. plant, a move that would eliminate up to 4500 jobs. Japan's Asahi Shimbun reported over the weekend that Toyota has already started to inform its suppliers about plans to shutter the plant. Toyota said earlier that it would decide by the end of August whether or not to keep the NUMMI plant open. A Toyota spokesman said the company has not reached an official decision yet.
According to Asahi, an unidentified source said Toyota would transfer production of the Toyota Tacoma and Corolla, the two vehicles made by Toyota at the NUMMI factory, to other locations. Tacoma production will move to San Antonio, Texas, while Corolla output will move to Alliston, Ontario, and a factory in Japan.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, along with other California lawmakers, has asked Toyota to keep the plant open. The fate of NUMMI, a joint venture between General Motors and Toyota, was thrown into doubt once GM filed for bankruptcy and said it would be ending its participation in the collaboration. Production of the Vibe, GM's only vehicle produced at NUMMI, is set to end this month.
NUMMI's Toyota workers are the only employees within the automaker's ranks represented by the UAW. By closing the plant, Toyota would end a money-losing venture and beef up production at other underutilized locations.

unless toyota has to buy out the end of the UAW contract , i dont see it as a money loss , i see that as a gain
unless they are gonna be running more shifts in the other plants to make up for it , but still would only be a loss tell they get back up to speed , cali is just to freaking expensive for anything

Closing the plant is not the money loss. Read the statement again.
I never understood what toyota had to gain by working with GM in the first place. IMO if i was toyota, i wouldn't want any of my products tanted with the image of GM. The matrix would have done great by itself without the vibe if wholly developed and marketed by toyota.

Sharing workforces, less tariffs on their trucks and GM paying for half the devellopment probably. In return GM got a few new vehicles which helped them pass CAFE regulations and some know-how.
