when one subaru isn't enough...

thought i'd post a few pics of my latest project.

the gf and I decided that instead of beating up the wrx, we'd pick up a cheap subaru for rallyx duty (have no fear, the wrx will still see dirt but running rallyx at summit point is extremely hard on the car...especially when it's your dd)

enter the legacy....

formerly my gf's brother's car, he beat the ever living piss out of it until it stopped running... or so he thought. $200 later, we had a car to work with. after a set of jumper cables, she turned over.

since we got it , we've replaced the radiator, upper rad hose, passenger side control arm (brother hit something... hard), and the driver's side door, removed the carpet and some other interior pieces as well. we've also put an aftermarket steering wheel in, 2.5 rs seats, outback front bumper, outback struts/springs, and my old 16" wrx wheels with general grabber at2's.

some recent pics

the motor has since started to overheat (200k miles of abuse tends to take it's toll so we are working on putting together a "frankenmotor" of sorts.

specs are:
ej22 block
ej22 turbo internals
ej22 head gaskets
ej25d heads (2.5 dohc heads found in 2.5 rs/outbacks)
wrx td04, exhaust manifold, and top mount

should run around 8:1 compression and we'll stick to low boost until we can get the engine management sorted out.

i'll make sure to keep this updated as we make headway!

Wow i didn't know subies had hybrid options like that? How difficult/ what level of custom work is required to put together the build you described? Listening intently...

subarus are honestly like legos... pretty much everything is interchangeable. nothing custom will have to be done to get the motor put together... just the time and the money to gather all the necessary components.

qbe... i'll be playing at a wedding on saturday.

depends on how thrifty you are...

we paid $200 for the car...

we'll be into the new motor for under a grand.

Well, I already have the car. BUT, I would need to find a standard transmission (I dont wanna use the auto).

But, this is giving me ideas I really shouldnt have. Now, to find a beater car

I was thinking of getting a set of Grabber AT2's for my truck. How are they?

i love my grabber at2's... I used to go wheelin with my buddy (he has a wrangler on 32" bfg at's) and never had any problems going where he went. I even put a set on my gf's old kia sportage. they do great in snow/mud/dirt/whatever you can throw at them!
