2003 malibu.
car would start, then die and the security light was flashing.
Did the leave the key on for 10mins, turn key off, then start it and it has been fine so far ( one day).
What I understand(talked to dealership) is that it could be the key tumbler deal, or the BCM.
I dont want to throw parts at this car really. I have a "GM parts hookup" and can get a good price on a key/tumbler assembly.
Or do you just have to reset the passlock stuff from time to time? Obviously if i dont have to replace anything that is better.
I also read some guy said he kept his key tumbler cleaned and lubed it up. ?
Any help/ insight or stories please post up.

it is my sister in laws car. cant see anyone wanting to steal a malibu.
I've heard this is really common. 50% BCM, 50% tumbler assembly.
A few people have used HPT to just disable PASSLOCK, the same thing I do for 3400 swaps into J-bodies.
See if you can find a BCM at the junkyard?

I would say its more than likely the Ignition Cylinder, which has the Passlock sensor on it. It could be a BCM, but that requires a reprogram to match the vin #.

Thing is, if it is just the key cyclender, can i get away with just replacing it and that is it. I am thinking if it is the BCM, then off to the GM $hop it would have to go.
