In all my time searching for something decent and reliable, I have finaly found one that fits what I need.
After selling the Cav and buying the Mustang as a summer toy I needed a winter beater. Now some of you remember my 1991 Olds Cutlass Calais I had for a little under a year. That rotted out.
Then I bought a 1996 Olds Cutlass Supreme coupe. Cracked head less than a month after purchasing... so I am fixing and selling it, and managed to just about steal my new beater
1998 Chevrolet S-10 extended cab. 2200, 5 speed, 2wd. Nice little base model truck to get me around, be cheap on gas, reliable, and in great shape for the $600 I offered him for it!

GO PATS!!!
Damnit, i need one of those.
"Project 69'"
1969 Chevrolet C/10, 1/2 ton, 2wd
-Boosted LS1?
-Richmond ROD 6-speed(will get sometime)
-Posi 12-bolt(built w/eaton posi unit and richmond 3.73 gears)
-Disc brake and 5 lug swap
+little extras
2wd FTL in the winter you will not be happy. But for 600 ya cant really complain
i have a 97, damn you got the good headlights, wanna do a front end swap with me
and 2wd in the winter, he will be fine. ive been driving mine 2 years now in the winter and zero problems. its not the vehicle, its the driver. and i got ya beat

i got mine for $100 haha.
yours needs a little tlc but other than that looks good. how many miles? also be careful of the headgasket on them. they like to go rather quickly on the truck if its still the stock one.

throw a few old tires or some cinder blocks in the bed and it'll work.
i got stuck in the snow one time coming back from the mountains. truck sliding all over, no traction sliding sideways down the hills. not fun. wife and i transfered about 200 lbs of luggage and Christmas gifts from the cab to the bed and managed to get out.
GO PATS!!!
i beat you all... i got my 98 s10 for free... pretty much the exact same truck you picked up... but a standard cab... works great in the winter... havent had a problem with mine yet
I know how to deal with winter driving. 2wd will not be an issue. I was going to go the cheap route and toss my slicks and skinnies in there. Free storage, AND weight... but I am not putting my slicks through that kind of cold weather, and the whole idea on drag wheels is lightweight lol. It needs a front valence I can get for like $40 at a yard, wouldn't mind having the drivers door match, and it has some chipping paint on the bumper. But seriously, this is my DD, I paid $600 for it, and it runs like a top, is in great shape, and has NO rust or rot problems.
headgasket has been replaced, and like I said the truck runs awesome. It has 145K on it.

Not only weight in the bed, but with only $600 invested into it, a little more money into a pair for the rear, or full set of winters tire will help a lot, and not break the bank.

Wow. Nice buy, especially for that price!! 2wd s10s aren't horrible in winter with the right tires. The shop I worked at in college had one, and it wasn't that bad if you took your time.
BTW, whereabouts in Maine do you live? I may be moving back sooner rather than later.

Holy hell of a deal.
...and agreed, if you can't handle a 2wd S-10 in the winter you're a pussy. My first vehicle was a 2wd S-10 and I drove it through my first 2 winters, never once seen a ditch.
Enjoy!
definitly look into winter tires!
aside from that, good deal
