Over on clubcav a guy is claiming he only got pulled on by car length by an rx8 with intake and exhaust.... vs his stock eco cav.... the part that i cant believe is that none of the members are even questioning him and theyre mostly saying if he had intake and exhaust on his cav he could take him

Well to be honest with you a bone stock RX8 is only good for a 15.0 - 14.8ish in the quarter. We've seen those numbers out of lightly modded Ecos before.
I ran one on a local 1/8 mile.
I ran 10.1
RX-8 ran 10.5
They are slow in a straight line.

There are no turbo RX-8's from Mazda.
The autos are butt slow because they are detuned 'cause slushbox suck.
A stick RX-8 with a good driver would hand a Cav it's butt. ... and then I hand the RX-8 it's butt.
Curvey road would put the RX-8 at a better advantage to me, but the cav's not even going stand a chance.
The realy drawback to the RX-8 is the gas mileage. DD it is not.
Well anyhow when i was work at a dealer we got 2 RX-8s in. The one i drove and the other was the Mazdaspeed edition. That one was quick, but i dunno if it was just the 6-speed in it or the Mazdaspeed package included a turbo?

* 6-speed manual "High Power" with an output of between 170 kW (231 hp) and 177 kW (237 hp) and a 9,000 rpm redline. Japanese models produce 184 kW (247hp)(250 PS).
* 5-speed manual "Standard Power" tuned to 141 kW (192 hp) with the redline reduced to 7,500 rpm.
* 4-speed automatic tuned to 141 kW (189 hp) in some markets, while the U.S. automatic is stated to deliver 197 SAE net hp (158 kW).
* 6-speed automatic (available in the U.S. market as of 2006) developing 212 hp (170 kW) and 159 lb-ft of torque with a redline at 7,500 rpm.[2]

Mazda introduced a special Shinka edition to the U.S. market in 2005, and to the UK market in 2006 where it was branded as the Evolve. Unique features include Shinka badges on the B-pillars, re-styled mirrors, alcantara-trimmed leather seats on the 2006 MY, stiffer chassis and suspension tuning, and polished wheels. For the 2005 MY, the Shinka was only available in Black Cherry Mica, and in 2006, it was available in Pearlescent White as well as some of the standard model colors. Power output remains unchanged from the standard models. This model is also offered in Japan as the Sports Prestige Limited RX-8. The Shinka option is not available for 2007. Mazda Japan is working on a Mazdaspeed version of the RX-8 dubbed the Mazdaspeed M'z Tune and will be released as a 2007 model.
No factory turbos in the Renesis engine.

MazdaSpeed package?? Looking at mazdausa.com, the only Speed package they have there is a MS3 (which also makes me ask, where is the 6?). Also, there was no turbo package from the factory, and the only MT that was available was a 6spd.
I have driven both the auto and manual, and while again, neither are impressive in straight line speeds, but it shines in handeling, which is better then most cars in its class (minus the S2000 IMO).

All i know about the other one was that it was red, 6-speed, had MazdaSpeed badges on it, ground effects, and (by what the tech said that drove it) it would scoot. I bet the dealer added the speed badges, and there is a factory aero kit for the unit as well. And as for "scoot", its not a slow car, but then again, it is not that fast either.

It was a used car, we were not the orginal dealer that sold it. My cuzin still works at the dealer i can talk to him to see if its still on the lot or on a different lot.

an RX8 is slow in a straight line. i beat one last year at a track. he had a 35 shot and only ran a 16.0

But yes, Mazda is currently thinking of a redesign of the Mazda6 line for a bit, hence why there are not too many of the other variations out there. Hopefully, if/when the 6 is back, the Speed6 is available as a hatchback.
