The only time I'd buy an automatic is if it was those flippedy paddle things. However I don't like the floor mounted manumatics, they're better than nothing but I just enjoy the F1 style shifter more. Anyway, I was just curious as to what American cars (if any) offer that sort of things because the offical manufacturer's websites seem allergic to giving any info about wether their cars have them and there's never any decent pictures of steering wheels.
I figure that the Corvette has it, but what other cars have it?
the Saturn Aura XR has them. I'm not sure about the Aura XE though.

Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.

Corvette does
WRX or Impreza I think have them... but they are not truely "american" cars.
WRX/STI does not. Neither does the Impreza. I think the G8 is supposed to have it (rumor, dont quote me on that)

The so called padle shift trannies still make the decisions for you. Glorified auto is all it it.
That being said, i'm sure not interested in a sequential for the street.

Either the 2008/09 Evo does.
Doesn't the Honda Fit Sport have sport paddle shifters as well?
Nevermind, I had a brain fart....he said American cars.

A true sequential would be awsome. The only thing other than a manual that I would even consider. So what if you have to go from 4th -3rd-2nd-1st- N at every stoplight. It would be @!#$wicked for auto-x and extremely fast and consistent for drag. I'd take it. Too bad they have yet to be manufactured on a large scale, no the MR-S doesn't count as it's not a 'true sequential.
OP: Why bother with the "flippy' paddles? they are no different than the 'tiptronic' auto. Do you just like them because they are on the steering column?

Between you and me? Yes, I only like them for being on the steering column. Hehehe... I know, it's weird. But for some reason it doesn't seem like a cheap substitute for a true manual when it's the paddles, unlike a tiptronic which always makes me miss having a clutch.
You all can list non-american cars too if you'd like. It's just that I already knew that Ferraris, Lambos, Porsches and Jaguars had them. That, and I can't afford any of those. Honda Fit has them? Cool.
Another thing I like about paddles is that it can free up the console for storage space instead of taking up all the room with an unneeded mechanical automatic shifter. With electronically controlled transmissions, you can just put the PRND selectors as buttons on the dash like the Aston Martin DB9 does. It works just as well and you get a couple of extra cupholders to boot.
Oh, and thanks for the info guys. It's much appreciated.
I know the mk5 GTI's have them and the RX-8s do too. Those were the only cars i have driven with them and i didnt care for them.
"Project 69'"
1969 Chevrolet C/10, 1/2 ton, 2wd
-Boosted LS1?
-Richmond ROD 6-speed(will get sometime)
-Posi 12-bolt(built w/eaton posi unit and richmond 3.73 gears)
-Disc brake and 5 lug swap
+little extras
I remeber a little bit ago jegs was selling a package that you could add paddle shifters to certain cars I agree paddle shifters are neat and a tiptonic makes me miss a clutch but it is still a glorified auto.
The best manually shifted automatic I have driven was an Acura RSX with a 5 speed auto. In manual mode it will not shift for you at all, even if you are bouncing off the rev limiter. I doesn't have paddles though.
No wait...I take that back. 2007 Infinity G35 sedan was the best one, really quick to shift, and when you downshift it revs the engine up first before shifting, avoiding a big jerk. Not to mention the beautiful sound the engine makes around 8000rpm. Actually, it's not a conventional automatic is it?
some of the automatics are not really automatics these days. take the MK5 GTI for instants, its actually a computer controlled dual clutched manual .. very sweet stuff, id say best tranny yet bar none
