So there is a guy in my area selling an 85 S10 Blazer. Its got 2" drop spindles and some little goodies. He had a V8 in it but pulled it and is just selling the shell now. He wants 150 bucks. I need a project. The interior is in good shape but not in the car. Which is great cause I need something to do....haha. I would just need an engine but it may be a little while. I'm having a hard time convincing the wife. What do you think? Should I just wait or pick it up? I thought about just dropping a cheap carbed 350 in it and putting it back up for sale for a 1500 or so. I could always hold out for an LS1. They've gotten pretty cheap. I know you can snag a 5.3 pretty cheap now also. May be fun, but wiring is no fun.
Some thoughts..ideas...opinions?
I know everyone is going to scream LS1 but I'm thinking realistic and money has been kind of on the tight end lately. Plus being an 85 might be easy and still pretty fun to drop a nice carbed 350 with a big ass cam and some headers in it.
I just don't see how you can go wrong for $150 bucks
hell, you could turn it over for a profit since you're doing the work yourself
... just find yourself a cheap V8 drivetrain.

You know how many wires there aren't to wire up a carbed 350? lol
id definately pick it up!! hell, if i lived closer id be trying to snatch it out from under you, lol
also, i know of a BUNCH of S10's with 350's in them. My buddy just pulled his 350 out of his and sold the shell.
350's and 383's bolt right into those things, my buddy has a 96 s10 and just did a 383 stroker swap into it. went from 200 to 450 hp... it will fire tonight

Wiring > Carb Tuning, IMO.

Typhoon Motor?Just an idea

350>typhoon motor. Most of the parts for a typhoon motor are pricey
how exactly does a 350 > typhoon?
the typhoon would really just be for the "cool" factor..i mean i have seen countless 350 S10's....it doesnt even get my attentiopn anymore.
but a S10 with a typhoon motor....THAT would turn some heads

Normal S10 + Typhoon driveline = SyCLONE?

Yes because turning a RWD into AWD is not hard or pricey. Nor is the Turbo 6 cylinder that would go in there along with tranny, t case and basically everything else. Not to mention that would completely defeat the purpose of wanting this one not only because its cheap but it recently had a V8 in it. Which would make the ease of putting a V8 into easy, cheap, and fast.
there was an older one that left the line like that^^^ lat time i was at the track. he ran a low low 10 and the other v8 s10 ran an 11 something.

isnt the typhoon just a stroner 4.3 with a turbo? the awd system is the same as the astro van and im assuming it uses the 700r4 tranny just like the vette, and camaro?

My old roommate has a 91 S-10 blazer with a LT-1. Yea, grab it up and toss in a SBC.

+little extras
Dude, Painless Wiring has pre-built harnesses for TPI/LT1/LS1/LSX... wiring is not an acceptable excuse! I'd totally do it, but definitely go with something injected, Blazers got crap for mileage to begin with, why make it worse with a carbed tree-fitty? If you can't afford the LSX's, go with a TPI or LT1, they might be dogs stock, but they can definitely scoot with some very simple upgrades... Hell, you should know, you're a previous 3rd gen owner.
For $150, as long as the body is straight, and the driveline is ok, you really can't go wrong, any motor you put into it will make it sell for a profit at your end if you decide to get rid of it.
