No kidding, and considering they sell 1 Viper for every 10 Vettes sold. Does it even matter anymore? It was great Idea that should have went one model then be cancelled...a collectible car at best. IMO the current Viper looks like a C6 vette with another nose on it. Which to me is like Chrysler phoned that design in.

not surprised.... i'll be more surprised if chrysler even makes it another 10 years without some form of government bailout.

They did a HUGE mistake when they started updating the Viper. Nobody wanted an update and the constant fiddling just made the car cost more. They should have stopped at the airbag, doorhandles and side windows of 1996 and then just always made the same car, pumping out maybe 1000 a year. The GTS was a good idea, and a damn pretty car, but again why keep screwing around with it?
It's like the Ford GT, why didn't they keep making it? All they had to do was keep the production super low, sell it at over 100,000$ and then put whatever top of the line engine they had in it. Personally I think that the GT would have been legendary with a 7.0 (427 cubic inch) DOHC modular V12 engine instead of a supercharger lightning engine.
What these companies need is a low production unit specifically aimed at such cars. Would keep them alive longer. Most of the guys running these projects don't feel comfortable doing so and would rather be back making econoboxes "en masse". *sigh*
I'll believe it when Chrysler says so.

wow...looking at the engine bay pics.... did anyone else notice the wiring harness was DUCT TAPED? i understand it may have not been a unit out to be sod, but still... if you release pics to people that say "this is what it is, how it's sold, and what it will look like when you buy it..." it just doesn't sit well with me.

Revamped Dodge Avenger, Chrysler Sebring to bow in late February; Viper not on the chopping block
January13
It was reported earlier this year that the revision of the Dodge Avenger and Chrysler Sebring would put the Viper program in jeopardy, but that is not the case. Jim Press — co-president and vice chairman of Chrysler — told Leftlane the revamp of the cars' interiors will have no ill financial effects on the Viper.
Moreover, Press says that the revised cars will hit the market much sooner than expected, bowing in late February of this year. Earlier reports indicated that the new cars wouldn't hit the market for one or two years.
The reason for this drastic move is the particularly poor reception of the public and the press to the interiors of the Sebring and Avenger, which have been described as ugly and cheap. Both cars are virtually brand new to the market, making the a 2010 redesign very costly. The source said the cars are "dying on the vine" and they're only a year old.
Chrysler is also said to be considering a major redesign to the 300 sedan for the 2011 model year — a move that will likely aim to maintain the successful car's momentum.

I hope they stop selling the VIper. I hate it!!!!!

I HIGHLY doubt the viper will be executed any time soon. It may be put on the "don't mess with it for now" list, but it won't be on the chopping block. I'll believe it when Cerberus has a news conference and says it themselves.
And why did they "update" the viper? They had to. The original rt/10 with 450 (and less) hp is SLOW by today's standards. You can get a family four door nowadays with 350-400 hp. Build quality, fit and finish, engineering advancement, etc etc etc; you can't keep selling the same thing for 20 years. This car isn't a car that's made to sell many or make a huge profit on, its just a car to keep them with something in the super high performance category. Do you know that bugatti makes ZERO profit on the veyron? It's an "engineering showcase" only for their company.
As for the ford gt, that car was made with WAY different intentions than the viper is currently made for. I know, I've met one of the designers and talked with him to extent. And no, its not the same 5.4L lightning engine.
I think chrysler REALLY needs to rethink their designs, both inside and out. the interiors look HORRIBLE and cheap, and the going with the truck design for CAR EXTERIORS is a really really really fugly idea. Cars are supposed to look like badass, sleek, powerful cars. Trucks are suppposed to look, big, bulky, and run-your-ass-over.
I think GM is somewhat seeing the light, because at least the new malibu looks decent.
