I've been contemplating getting a 'toy' for the weekends and long distance rides. I'd probably sell the 500 I have now and sell the BMW 50/5 project bike for parts and storage room. Which would you rather have at these prices? Fairing scratches on both hence the prices, but both have been test ridden and are mechanically sound.
2001 ZX6R - 3800 miles - $3900
The ZX6R seems to have been bought by a first time rider, popped the clutch and bottomed out the lower part of the fairing between the wheels as he came down. Shifts smooth as stock, no strange noises or clunks going up through rpms.
2000 GSXR600 - 675 miles - $4500
The GSXR looks to also have been a first time bike, but only suffered stand still drops. Short scrape on side of exhaust and both sides of lower fairings. Either the owner scared themselves riding and put it away in storage, or they never had time to learn how to handle the bike and gave up on it.
The only caveat I can see is the ZX6R has a less comfortable seat and is being sold out of state (timely transfers going across state and dealing with bull@!#$ from DMV).
if you have the money, id go with the Gixxer
that gixxer is not even broken in yet.
ehh, 700 miles on an 8-year old engine is no good.
Going back on tuesday afternoon to give the zx6r one last mechanical look over and test ride
and see if I can haggle the guy down in price a little, just for all the lower fairing scratches. There is also a small crack that will need some repairs.
Both would be better than the bike I took to Ohio in July, which was still a 500 mile trip each way. Yes, 500 miles on the 250 ninja @ 80mph 9000 rpm for 10 hours straight, talk about shaky hands. Bike is paid for and getting picked up next week.
Float like a butterfly sting like a bee?
Always loved the front end on this model year.
Cavaliers' body work is finally all aligned and front bracing is in place, everything will come off later today to get primer/filler to find uneven spots. After that it's off to the paint shop. I can't decide on the type of front grill, so for now it will do without (no pictures until it's done
I've done over 650 miles in a day on my Honda CBR 600. It's manageable. The only thing I might suggest is an aftermarket seat. Other then that it was managable.
