"The perfect AWD Camry"
I think that said it all there. They are probably going to try to expand the target market. There just isn't a lot of money in the tuner market compared to the general public. The average grocery getting parent doesn't care to have a car that shreds the back roads. They would rather have a civilized AWD car that is easier to drive on the snow covered roads then a FWD Camry.
That said, hopefully they take it up a few extra steps with an STi version.

Subaru going backwards? If you want to see backwards engineering and a poster child of that; go to your Chevy dealer and look at a Cobalt. How do you measure progress? Is it that a rear-view mirror filling wing has to be a extra foot taller then its predecessor? Or is it that the new model has to be less spacious yet heavier then the model it replaces?
If you measure "improvement" by radical ground effects, stripes, Airbus A380 rear wing, then yes this car is backwards, luckily there will many California companies making parts to rice up your ride... . then of course it will be improved.
By facts alone, this new model is a better base to work with: stiffer, lighter, roomier and some may go as to stay stealthier too. These so called experts, said "AWD Camry," they should've expanded their horizon and not been so ignorant on the car field and should have said "AWD Reno" maybe? I think many of you are judging this book by its cover and not reading the actual story. If you do read the story, you will clearly see, this new Impreza is a step up. Being that its base is improved, it means it can only get better in STi trim.

HaHa almost all of that video was filmed in Santa Clarita near my house.
And yes this thing is clearly the most blantaint rip off of the Suzuki Reno (design wise)
I think that all of it's short comings can be easily fixed with aftermarket. But raising the cost of the "WRX" to near former "STi" prices will be a mistake Subie will get burned with. Just look at the Sony PS3 & Chevrolet f-bodies as a business models when you outprice your product from it's core buyers all you rake in are losses.
