Well, I finally got a GREAT job, and I want a faster car.
My friend just got a 2003 (maybe 2004) Mustang Mach 1. He has taken me for some rides, and I have also driven it.
I like the power it has, the get up and go. (Although the interior seems cheap)
So how does the GTO compare to the Mach 1/GT/SVT/ whatever else there is for Mustangs, and what not?
It seems to be easier to find a good priced GTO than that of a Mustang.
And do all the GTO's come with 400hp or just some?
And also what is easier to get more HP out of?
And whatever I get, it will be Manual if that makes any difference.
Thank You
04 gto = 350 LS1 , 05-06 gto = 400 LS2
gto's are getting harder and harder to get new , since 06 is the last year for the gto
im a GM guy so ill say gto , but the stang isnt to bad , i think they feel rather cheap inside
The GTO will be easier to get more hp out of all the mustangs except for the 03-04 cobras ( I don't consider them mustangs just because they are actually fast.)
The 04 GTO will have a slight disadvantage in the 1/4 to the mach1 but it is still a drivers race.
The 05-06 GTO has the advantage in the 1/4 but its still a drivers race.
If you want to run 11s in a 05 GTO all it takes is some drag radials, 100 shot of nitrous and drag bags.

Dude, go 03-04 cobra.....you wont regret it.
whats the price comparisons between the Cobra and the GTO?
like what are parts (performance wise) cheaper for?
and how does the Cobra compare to the Mach 1?
Special Ed wrote:Dude, go 03-04 cobra.....you wont regret it.
Unless you want to take a road trip over 4 hrs.
The cobra is easy to make stupid fast and pretty cheap to get it that way.
The GTOs parts tend to be a bit more pricey.

yeah I drive ALOT....it wouldn't be my daily driver, but I would still drive it ALOT...
what makes the cobra so bad at driving it a long time?
go with a GTO or an 98+ f-body forget about mustang Gt's there a waste of time imho the 99-04 are not that fast for the engine size and your only looking at low 14's and with even the new 05+ they will only net you a high 13
i have a 98 Trans am and i can wipe the floor with ether, matter of fact i creamed a 05+ GT the other day and it wasn't even close i even gave him a jump every time
if your looking for something with a nice interior i would go for a GTO as they have great interiors and the 05+ have the LS2 with 400hp where as the 04's have the same 350hp engine thats in the 98+ f-bodies. a 04 will net high 13's and the 05+ will net low 13's. now if your looking for something for flat out speed and is cheaper id go with an 98+ f-body. an 98+ f-body will net a low to mid 13's 1/4 mile run in ether manual or auto there both pretty fast.anything with a LSX engine is very easy to make go faster hell headers alone will add around 40+hp add a higher flowing head and cams to that and you got your self a hell of a beast.
just for an example it would take all the bolt ons for a 99-04 GT to come even close to a 98+ f-body so choose your car wisely ... the only mustang that i can remotely recommend is the 99-04+ Cobra they have a super charger and take well to extra boost but they are over priced and will guzzle gas like you wouldn't believe

Certified Ford Exploding Brakes.
... and crappy ergonomics.
Id say GTO, but a Mach 1 is a pretty sweet ride as well...

Not to mention the infamous ford clutch pedal. Stiff as @!#$.
And the car is just a punishing ride.

If you are getting an 05+ Mustang, I say Mustang
If not, then get the GTO
05+mustang GT= slow and overpriced.

GTO is more in line with a BMW M3 with all the refinements/performance it has.
Mustang is more line with the F-body with being muscle car crudeness (not a bad thing at all).
A base new 2007 Mustang GT can be had for $25K while the 06 GTO new was never any lower then $30K here. But on the GTO you get what you pay for: luxury and 400HP. Mustang GT advantage is it uses regular fuel and it has that distinct Ford Mustang V8 sound. Either way both are rock solid choices and I would not mind having either or both.

That regular fuel equates to $3.70 per tank if it was completely empty. Not much at all really when you think about it.

Dont forget the insurance difference. The GTO is quiet a bit cheaper to insure compared to the cobra. The Cobra is a potent car and i love them performance wise.....but the interior always made me want to throw up. The GT stangs are pretty much a snore. All in all id have to say GTO. And im doing my best not to be biased. If I were you (and i did what im about to tell you)....go drive them back to back. Thatll help you the most.

As a Mustang GT owner, my opinion is to get a 05-06 GTO.
Still not lowered...
