It looks like ford is closing yet another plant. Looks like 1,100 are out of a job...

Ford To Close 1 Plant, Idle Another

BROOK PARK, Ohio -- Hundreds of Ford workers found out Monday that they're getting pink slips.

Ford Motor Co. announced plans to close its casting plant in Brook Park in 2009. It employees 1,100 workers.

NewsChannel5 also learned that 530 workers at Cleveland Engine Plant 1 in Brook Park will be out of work for at least a year starting in two weeks. Salaried employeed will keep their jobs.

A second engine plant at the complex will remain open.

The casting plant, which makes crankshafts for Ford's four-cylinder engines, bearing caps, engine blocks and other items, is being shuttered because of the company's declining market share.

Union leaders told workers that Ford would idle the plant because the automaker has a surplus of the parts that are made there. The engine plant makes 3.0-liter V-6 engines and was being retooled to make a larger 3.5-liter engine.

Ford said the move would save the company more than $38 million. The company has been looking for ways to cut costs since finishing 2006 billions of dollars in the hole.

The company blames slumping sales and mounting restructuring costs.

The moves are part of Ford's "Way Forward" restructuring plan in which the company said it would close 16 facilities by 2012. The car maker already has announced nine of the closures.
