Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR

The ultimate Mustang, Ford and Carroll Shelby revive yet another great performance moniker - the GT500 KR (King of the Road) - for 2008. Modifications to the 5.4-liter supercharged V8 allow the engine to produce 540 hp and 510 lb-ft, coupled through a Tremec 6-speed transmission. A retuned suspension package, consisting of unique springs, dampers and a strut tower brace, help the new KR handle better than its ancestor. Shelby tops it off with a carbon-fiber hood that copies KRs of days past. The GT500 KR goes on sale in spring of 2008,- only 1000 will be built.

Man for the price F- that. Esp. since the dealers who do get them will most likely mark up the price even more.
Still has a solid rear so it'll only be good for the drags.

stupid ford, 1,000 of them. . . not every dealership in the US will be able to get one, and the ones that do get one will either have a 100,000 dollar price tag, or the owner of the dealership will get it. Ford is really screwing themselves with the newmustang, it could have been such a great car, but instead its a limited out of reach to the average joe muscle car. The mustang is supposed to be the average joe muscle car

lol true but where is the fun it that? The new KR is the revival of the 1968 Shelby Cobra Jet GT500KR where only roughly 1500 were sold. Ford/Shelby are just trying to bring back the good 'ol days of the muscle car era. If I had the money for a KR, I'd get it.

Obviously some more since the GT500 was still slower than a standard c6.

They're not doing a great job of it.

Mustangs are popular again, but this incarnation of the KR is a little lack-lustre. The 68 could at least keep up with Corvettes.

If they wanted to compete with corvette they should have just put the damn thing on a diet and boost up the engine a little more. But, they only did 1/2 of that I personally don't think it will sell THAT well. Being here in the Detroit aera, I have only seen one Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra. Atleast, I don't think that is good, since the engines are built right in Romeo, MI The exterior of the car looks damn sexy

I went home this weekend, as did my buddy. We went to Auto Zone and in came a Mustang GT. Down the little alley way...another Mustang. Everyone and their mom, dad, gandparents, siblings, etc, have a Mustang.

As for the KR, please, a few flashy things, 40 more HP, a little lighter hood, still weighs damn near 2 tons. Compared to the featherweight Z06 sitting comfortably around 3,150.

LAME.

Another attempt by Ford & Shelby to milk the Mustang heritage. These things will easily have a price tag of over $100,000 and with me being a Mustang person at heart, I would much rather put that cash in a Corvette (c6, Z06 or proposed SS). I don't care what anyone else says, there's nothing special about that Mustang. There are guys out there already pushing 600 horsepower in the s197 GTs that have put less many into making their GTs powerful than (including cost of the car) that what it would take to buy this thing.

And I agree Mustangs are everywhere...

...as are Camaros, Cavaliers, Altimas, Civics, F150s...etc.

sorry, the way i see it, the Mustang GT really isnt that great of a car. Just like the 99-04 mustang GT its just an okay car. Not really muscle car performance, more so muscle car looks. The Cobras on the other hand was beast of a muscle car. You wanted a high performance mustang you got a Cobra. But they took the Cobra away from the average joe. Thats what i mean by ford ruining the car. If you an average joe the best you can do is a Mustang GT that i see every old lady and old man driving around. Before the best you could do for an average joe was a Cobra, and that car kicked ass and took names.

Also another audience Ford is going towards, is the collector. Especially since they are making only 1,000 total. I'd still like to see the performance aspects of it
