Well, 3 strikes (all not really my fault at all) and the sunfire is out, somehow there was an interior fire the other night, and after 2 accidents i just decided to part it out (when i get to it) and get another car.
Im looking in the range of nothing more than 18 or so, i wanted a cobalt ss s/c, and that was all around 18-19 that i could find... i ALSO found a '99 vette and a porche and whatnot for around the same money.
What kind of car would be the best for this price range? I want something peppy, and i just got new suspension on the sunfire, so i want something rock solid to drive (or that corners well). But i DONT want something that half the world has already. 4 door would help insurance a tiddle bit, but its not a must.
I was thinking the cobalt was my best option here, as im familiar with the eco motor somewhat and i LOVE to tinker with cars. anyone have any suggestions?
would like it to be '00+ and i will daily drive and i drive kinda hard.
thanks!
I'm sorry but you reference getting a cobalt SS/SC and at the same time mention getting a vette or a porche...
I'm a little confused...

He wants somethine stupid fast, that he can daily drive,,,hard, and tinker with for around 20 grand.
Basically, i was looking at price, im not looking for a car in a specific class, i dont see whats so confusing.
dont want to spend more than 20 thou.
want something that corners well
want something fast (or something that can be made fast, easier than a j)
want to be able to play around with it
as reliable as possible
something sexy looking as well.
Found an rsx-s for $15k, thinking maybe ill go that route. not sure
id like to add to this list that i dont want something that i see EVERYWHERE, and Id like a manual trans (its been a while)
I was in the same boat... I either was going to get a ss/sc, scionTC, or Civic SI for around 20K but I enede up getting a pre-owned Infiniti G35 (2003) for a similar price. Well worth it I might add
04 GTO

Id like to get something different than a goat (boss has one), 2 employees i have drive gtps, and my brother drives an 04 ss impala (3.8 s/c). And my best friend has a trans am..
Id like to veer from what they have, but still be as fast, if it takes work to get the car as fast, so be it, ive never had a problem with that.
I LIKE the look of the FTO... Tho I dont know where to get one...
Im really digging this rsx the more that I stare at it...
Well i guess i have a bit of time before i make a final decision. any other suggestions will help.
thanks!
Since the budget is important to you, I'd avoid anything like the Vette or Porsche or anything else way out of your league in affordability. You might be able to buy it, but the repairs are going to put you in the poor house when they need to be done.
Cobalt SS and RSX-S are both good choices. Have you looked around for any SRT-4's?
Ive driven both a cobalt and an srt-4 and though the dodge had more power the cobalt felt like it pulled more, and i like the chevy interior more. The chevy also felt like a more solid car to be in, the dodge didnt feel right to me, felt cheaper than the sunfire i was driving.
Never ridden in an rsx tho, Im going test driving on thursday i think
It looks like its going to be a cobalt ss...
does anyone have the stage 2 kit on the car at all? im dieing to know how that pulls, ill do some research.
all i want to do is be faster than my brothers 04 impala ss, (L67 powered).... He doesnt have huge plans for it or anything, or cash to put into it either.
thanks for the suggestions jbo, keep them coming!

Try looking for a MazadaSpeed Protege....im not too sure on the handling, but the looks are nice, and its one of the more rare tuner cars out there. You might be also able to find some nice WRXs for that range too, or an Audi S4 (get the bi-turbo one though). Or also look at an MKIV GTI or Jetta 1.8T......fun cars, cheap to get some nice power out of.
I like the idea of Built - Not Bought type concept.
