anyone have any experience with Dodge omni's?
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 11:16 PM
Well i think ive found a fun little project car, its an 86 omni GLH for $900, i have $5000 saved up so i think i can use the extra for some nice modding on this little beast. I havn't bought it yet but im really concidering it, they seem like real great sleepers. The looks arn't what everyone likes but i kinda like it, lots of nice videos of them smoking some quite nice cars and can apparently get mid 13's quite easily in the 1/4, mile. As i stated in my other thread that im looking for a car and this seems to meet my requirements, its good on gas, cheap, fast. Anyone have any thoughts on this car or possible alternatives?

I could have closer to $15,000 but thats with taking out a loan (if the car i get is more than $5000) so i guess i COULD use some more on modding, but im not sure just yet lol one thing at a time.

GLH Turbo is cool... Hard to find in good shape though. For $900 it is probably going to need extensive work, but if not it's a heck of steal. Good luck.

Cool little cars. I have been tempted to bid on them on eBay occasionally.

make sure that it is a turbo GLH, I went to look at one and was pretty disappointed when I found out it was a standard 2.2 in there. I think that the 1984 are non-turbo, and the 85 and 86 are turbo

Ya, im going to take a look at it this weekend with my friend who's a mechanic. Like i said, if it does need work, i have up to $15,000 to work with If i can get it cheap enough i think it'll be a fun little sleeper some guy apparently fit a engine from a 3000gt into it and its now twin turbo'd Hes on cardomain somewhere. Im not great with FWD cars with alot of hp, wouldn't they get hard to drive after a certain point?

ah dont mind him. he's just another lsx nutswinger. they just sit there thinking there cars are almighty and built by god himself. pretty much knock anyone and anything if it doesnt include an lsx. there pretty funny though, the looks on there faces when you take there money with 4 cyl cars that is. now if you would have said "im buying a omni and want to put a lsx into it" he would be all posative giving you all kinds of information and telling you to not even think about it, just buy it.

now replying to your topic... i personally think it would be a bad idea. they are cool cars, but the facts are they get beat up on ALOT and because of that they break down alot. and this is your daily driver, and it sounds like you plan on having a fast car as well. but it sounds like you kinda dont know too much about cars at all if your taking a mechanic with you. not dissing you or anything, but these cars are alot like dsm's. you dont just go out a buy one not knowing what your getting into if you both want it to be fast and reliable. have you thought about buying this car and building it on the side, then get like a 2k dollar civic as a daily driver???? best of both worlds. reliable car that gets great gas milage. and a race car that you can beat the hell out of and not care.

Dont cry, dry your eye.

Or, better yet, whip the sand out of your vagina.

Its a sad thing you get fisted by LS1s constantly in those sh1t box DSMs you own ... or that you never did have enough money to afford an LSx equiped vehicle.

But thats OK.

Because without peasants Haters like you, LS1 owners like myself wouldnt enjoy fisting the ever living sh1t out of you as we do now .. in fact, everytime I anally sodomize some bandwagon Hater my dick gets a little hard. Just a little bit.

And you are a Hater. Why? Well lets see ... what exactly did my post have to do with LS1s? Im talking about the Hopes and Dreams fanclub. You should be familiar with this as you are most likely a member. One day you will own that EVO ... one day.

And lets not get started on all the other posts you come in and whine like a b1tch about.

What a piece of sh1t.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! your funny. i love lsx's. there great motors, i love TA's. i just hate owners like you that thing your cars are the only thing on earth. heres a couple facts for you. ive NEVER lost to a lsx car, the fastest one ive raced was procharged, ran low 11's and did him dirty on a roll. if i wanted a lsx car i would own one, i have enough money in my bank to go out and buy one if i want. im going out and buying a 350z in a month, paying for it. your bull@!#$ money excuses dont work with me. every car i own has the exact setup i want either in it, or i have the parts in the garage, yea its nice! sucks for you though. and if you want to keep talking @!#$ why dont you drive to reno and ill race you.

lol this thread seems lost Ive decided not to buy one, it was just a thought i had. Your right, i dont know hardly anything about cars unfortunatly, neither of my parents know anything about them either so i never grew up around this stuff as much as i wish i had. Im trying to learn a little bit as i go but its harder than learning it as you grow up. Im still not sure what i want really lol, want something thats not painfully slow, hell ill be happy if its mildly faster than my cavalier lol, but i dont want it to look like a rolling turd either (main reason i decided against the omni ) So ya, we'll see what happens. Concidering a cobalt, but im not sure how fast they are stock :S

By all means, get the car!!! The L- Body (Omni, Horizon, Charger, Turismo, Scamp, Rampage) cars are one of the most reliable turbo'd vehicles thet have ever been available. Except for the ocasional head gasket and miles of vacuum tubing, they are quite dependable. And being built off of the same basic platform as the run of the mill cars, most all parts interchange. Hell the intake/exhaust gaskets are even the same between the turbo and the TBI/Carb cars!!! The GLH upgraded suspension and brakes are just the standard K-car parts on a smaller vehicle. And a GLH handles like it is on rails. As a bonus, the L-body cars weigh less than a J, and are easier to get into the 12's.

One of the things to look for when buying an 80's era FWD Chrysler is the floor pan area. They like to rust out. And always keep a spare HEP in the glove box.

As a side note, the GLH was available from 1984-1987. 1984 was the HO carb only, 85-87 had the turbo option.

Yeah, saw that build up in SCC a while back...great little cars, built it up from junkyard parts. I think it cost the owner $5,000 total to build it. Run's 12's and 13's if I remember right. There's an Omni back in my hometown. Whenever I see that damn thing I think of that article.
