looking at a wrecked alero, opnions please.

hey guys im looking at buying a wrecked Oldsmobile alero, most likely to repair.
its a 2002 sedan 3400 with a 4 speed auto,power package,hub caps and only 38,000KMS on it.

now the bad part, the damage. the driver lost control on the highway and bounced off the concrete barrier. there is light front end damage, and i will need to replace the front bumper cover, left head lamp, left fender and repair the hood. im not sure but I'll probably just replace it.

there is also damage to the left rear corner, just the tail lamp and 1/4 panel, the bumper cover can be sanded and repainted. the 1/4 will most likely need to be replaced.

^ 1/4 pic, note the buckle near the top of the panel, which makes me think its irreparable.

now the bags are good, the rad and condenser are intact and holding fluid, i drove it for about 15 min with no problems. it didn't over heat and everything seems to work fine. the car has a clean title (the accident was never reported)

he is asking $1200 Canadian OBO, what do you guys thing. about the price? even with the light damage i think its a little high.

thanks for the input guys.

here's your dilemma....rear quarters can be replaced...but depending on who you know, it could be pricey. but..if you know the right people it could be cheap. It's gonna need some time on a frame machine I'd guess, the quarter is pushed into the trunk lid. you're probably talkin 1800-2000 for the rear alone, and maybe 400-500 for the new front if you do it right. So now consider...3500 total price for the car....whats its value?

I've seen worse become legal again but I'd say no. I'd find something a little less banged up.

I'd say $1000, and find a GOOD body shop (if you're in Ontario, you have to find an accredited shop if there is structural damage, I wouldn't discount it in that hit) and get it repaired. You'll likely need a new lens and housing and definitely the bumper cover (don't screw around, just get it). Make sure the trunk, lid and hinge aren't AFU as well....
I would probably get a 4 wheel alignment just be on the safe side.

Only other thing I'd do is get it rust sprayed if you plan to make it a daily warrior.

looks like the 1/4 is done, tail light, maybe deck lid can`t tell, bumper is fixabel it looks like cant tell, either check on ebay or junk yard for parts, my guess the insurance company tottaled the car??? and if that is correct leave it toatled, ya might need frame work------maybe the body is beyond repair, meaning the eniter uni-body is twisted beyond repair, frame rails can be fixed but when a uni-body car is twisted forget it its done

but if ya do keep it and fix it there are 3 body kits out for the car, air ride, big brake kits, i have j-body t/b and intake and exhaust on my car now, personally speaking i love my alero, never has any problesm with it just routine mantience, the 3.4 is famous for the lower and upper intake leaking and the brakes suck, wheel hubs go out, window problems, but i never had any problems with mine

so its your choice, just be prepared to spend allot of money fixing that car

can i haz bondo
