Hey everyone I know this isn't the best website for this question but I figured I'd give it a try. Doe's anybody know how much the AWD setup in the geo storm/isuzu impulse differs from the pontiac 6000? I was wondering because I'd like a standard awd 6000 but they were never made so can I modify an awd isuzu transmission to fit.(I myself would'nt be doing the work ) Thanks
Jamie
Completely different animals. I don't have any useful info on the Isuzu setup, but I used to own a 1990 A6K. The AWD "system" is integrated into the transaxle. It's based off of the existing TH125 case, but is shortened on the right hand output. There, the "transfer case" (if you can call it that) is bolted on, which has both the yoke for the rear propeller shaft, along with the input for the RF axle. Any and everything relating to the drivetrain on this car is pretty well exclusive to itself, as the setup was specifically geared towards the A platform. Swapping this driveline into another car would be the same as using a DSM AWD system; you would basically be engineering from square 1. The fact that it's a GM system doesn't make it any easier.
I'd have to agree with the previous statement. Even on some of the Jeeps I work on you will find different splinded axles on one year compared to the next.
